31 weeks & TIRED!

Hi. I'm 31 weeks today & the past 3 days my energy level is crapped out! I get so tired standing. I'm not sleeping great every night but still. Friday night it was so bad I felt drugged! I keep feeling like I'm going to have my girl 2-3 weeks early. I'm not sure if that's just because I've got so much to do before then & I'm worried about finishing or what. I've only gained 5lbs so far so its not a ton of extra weight adding to the exhaustion. I did start out much heavier than I hoped. Any idea on boosting my energy? It's a pretty extreme drop I think. And the idea of walking to help makes me more tired. Lol

I'm 35 weeks tomorrow and I hear you! This last few weeks I've been nodding off everytime I sit down for five minutes. I'm in bed for at least 8 hours a night, but could live there right now! I'm eating over maintenance most everyday now, because I'm always hungry and tired. Oh and having serious sugar cravings, the type where I'm dreaming about chocolate and sweets!

Like you, I've only put on 4 1/2 lbs, so I'm not carrying a lot of extra weight. But I have lost muscle tone and motivation to exercise. I'd much rather sit on the sofa for the rest of this pregnancy and nap! However, moments when I feel good, I feel really good about not piling on the weight and being loads slimmer now than I was this point in my last pregnancy. And when I make the right food choices I do have more energy.

So, if you have to slow down a bit now and nap now and then, that's normal. If you have to turn in ten minutes after your daughter, even if it's only 6.30pm, do it! Making the right food choices does definitely make a difference to your energy levels. It's also a state of mind at this point. Set a few goals for your day - get that washing done or that freezer meal made - and feel good by supper time that you've achieved the things you set out to do and forget about the things it's too difficult to get done today. There's always tomorrow and chances are our girls will arrive a week late and all the panicking about not having got things ready in time would have been futile! One other thing I did was start taking my pregnancy vitamins again, that I had stopped at 13 weeks, as I figured every little bit helps!

Well, I wish I could contribute something meaningful but I really can't. I'm in week 30 right now and there are days that getting out of bed is pure torture.

I have found that on the days I'm more active I feel better. I normally have 1-2 days off work during the week and those are the days I feel like crap. On work days and weekends--when I'm generally going from 6AM until 9PM--I feel fine.

Nap if you can. And, as I keep telling myself, "Baby won't know if the room was ready or not." I'm often reminded my older friends and relatives that all this preparation we do is way more than they did when they had babies. We don't have to do it all!
  • Thank you ladies :-) I do feel better today when I'm back to routine. :-) Last night was pretty rough, hips & back were killing me & it seemed like the baby had shifted down. Today I feel pretty good. My stuff to get done is really getting my Christmas shopping done for my 2yo. I am using my, now very low, daycare money & can only do it every other week because we take turns grocery shopping...so I have like 4 weeks over the next 8 to make it work! I know that might sound less important but it's super important to me. Especially w the newest news of my husband being laid off in a couple months. There will be no extra to make sure she still has a magical morning. I'm feeling very determined to make it happen tho. :-)
  • The honeymoon trimester is OVER. 30 weeks here, and the last few days have been blah. I think we just need to acknowledge the limitations our bodies have set for us and do what we can, when we can do it. After having no appetite for two days, I'm feeling better today. I think as the last last trimester progresses, we'll have more days that will feel like it's impossible to do anything but lay on the couch. You are doing an amazing job! Just remember that :)

Ugh, Nan.... I forgot about Christmas!! I'm normally the one at the stores the week before, guess I'll have to plan better this year. My husband did open up our annual "real or fake tree" debate the other day and I almost smacked him across the face. I guess I'm in denial about the decorating and gifts that need to be taken care of. Sorry to hear of your husbands' layoff from work. I hope it's short-lived. I'm sure you'll do a fabulous job for your little girl :)

Molly--you are so right. I keep telling myself "you're growing a real live person inside of you, you don't have to do everything else too" but it's just so hard to slow down sometimes. What we're doing is amazing!!

I started to feel like this at around 34-35 weeks. I was eating what I felt like was a lot (2350 per day), but I increased it anyway to about 2500 or more some days as I was feeling hungry, too. My energy levels were instantly better AND I lost a pound. Go figure, lol. I also made sure I added in some iron rich foods and started tracking my iron on my diary. I am still kind of tired, but not fall asleep standing up exhausted like I was starting to feel.

The third trimester can be tough though. Just be sure to take extra good care of yourself and rest/eat when you need to!
  • You ladies are awesome. I'm not sure I would have managed half as well without your support. With weight loss issues, pregnancy & completely off topic crap. :-) :-) :-)
