Understanding calories with BFing

hey everyone. New member here. My name is Kasey and I had my daughter 3 weeks ago and have been BFing 'on demand' since she was born {although I still haven't gotten the hang of pumping yet as I can't seem to pump even close to a 1/2 ounce}.

Little back story- This is my second. My son was born 5yrs ago and due to lack of education, impatience and being a bit naive, I ended up giving up the BFing with him in the first week. I gained 80lbs with that pregnancy and within a year lost close to 100lbs {with healthy eating and regular exercise}.

This time I gained about 55-60lbs and am ready to start losing! I am only 3 weeks pp so I can't do any hard physical activity until I have my 6 week check up and my doctor gives me the OK... so in the mean time I have been going on walks and im slowly starting to feel my energy levels come back to what they were before I got pregnant {and overall I feel great, no pain, no aching, no soreness from my incision}.

So now that I AM breast feeding, about how much calories should I be taking in? I have been a member of MFP for over a year now and back when I first joined I was taking in about 1400 calories a day. That's to low now though for BFing right?

Any tips, advice... greatly appreciated! :)

I would keep 1400 and add in 500 for bf. I net about 1480 calories.

I added 500 calories a day for breastfeeding too.

Just a side note, I did notice my supply dip when I was short on calories. So eat up mama! You're doing a great thing bf'ing your baby :)
