After a long ride

This may seem silly to some but, after a long ride does anyone else notice the scales going up?
I rode all weekend 400 miles Saturday and another 400 Sunday. Yesterday morning I was 4 pounds heavier than I was before we left Saturday. I drank tons of water yesterday and have lost all but 1 pound of it today. Had the same thing happen in the summer but it was 8 pounds! I keep water with me and drink it while on the bike and take plenty of breaks. I know it is fluid retention. I am just wondering if this is common and if it is preventable?

That doesn't happen to me. Do you eat very differently when you're riding -- could it be a big spike in your sodium intake?0

I don't really eat differently, but I dont drink as much as I do on the average day. I know it is just fluid retention. I was thinking it may be the Alabama heat? I am going to pay more attention and see if this betters as the weather cools down. Like I said it is not nearly as bad this weekend as it was in the summer. I couldn't get my rings off after a couple hundred miles in the summer.
Was just wondering if this is common. Thanks for answering.0 -
I gain after a day on the bike as well. But I know why - I eat bad, I don't drink enough water, I drink other things that does me no good. In the end I don't really care, because I will make up for it on other days, and I am out there to have fun!0

Speaking of getting rings off... When we go up in the mountains my rings come off easily. Don't know if it's the change in altitude or cooler temps or what. Come back down to the city and the rings are snug again. And it's like that whether it's for the day or the week, whether I gain or lose during that time. So that makes me think that it's something about the altitude.
And because of noticing this, I no longer pay attention to how my rings fit as a sign of anything. I live at about 5,000 feet elevation, I figure if I went down to sea level getting my rings off would be completely hopeless.
TOTALLY off topic to your original post, though :bigsmile:0
