THE PREACHER'S LIVELIHOOD

Who at any time serves as a soldier at his own expense? Who plants a vineyard, and does not eat the fruit of it? Or who tends a flock and does not use the milk of the flock? I am not speaking their things according to human judgement, am I? Or does not the Law also say these things? 1 Corinthians 9:7-8

Those who bring us the Word of God deserves a living wage. This is the point Paul is making. After all, the apostles had given up their homes and any semblance of normal family life in order to travel and present the Gospel. "Do we not have a right to eat and drink? Do we not have a right to refrain from working?" 1 Corinthians 9:4-6

The word apostle means "one sent under commission." And if they had been called into service by God, weren't they entitled to the financial support from the body of believers? Paul chose to make tents for a living rather than have others support him.

So why did Paul choose to labor without receiving any wages? This way no one could accuse him of presenting the Gospel for personal gain. For Paul considered himself a servant for Jesus' sake. 2 Corinthians 4:5

PRAYER----Lord, let me remember in my prayers, tithes, and offerings all those who labor to bring the Word of God to me and others.

AMEN! and we need to remember to tithe of ourselves, our time as servants to others. Christ set the perfect example and His Apostles followed suit.
