PCOS and gluten free?

I was recently diagnosed with PCOS and I have gone gluten free, eliminated sugars, and started drinking almond milk instead of cow's milk. I read that this is a good diet for PCOS as a lot of women with PCOS have a gluten intolerance. I have already lost 6lbs in less than 2 weeks by eating like this and by exercising. Has anyone else had the same wonderful experience?

i am gluten free because i have an intolerance to gluten and i really hate wasting my day tied to the bathroom. But many pcos women are also insulin resistant so lowering carbs can often help weightloss. I lose extremely slow. Like everyone else, pcos or not, i lost a good bit of weight the first couple weeks but then it slowed down to a couple pounds a month, even with excersise.

Glad its going well for you and keep up the good work!

just curious what a daily diart would look like for you?
what you eat in other words looking for a diet to help me as i too have pcos and am struggling with the weight loss side of things.
  • I'm eating pretty much the same as I did before except I am eating a lot more veggies and fruit. I do get some gluten free products but for the most part I only use them when I'm craving pasta for example. I use splenda instead of sugar. And I am drinking tons of water. I also use almond milk with my cereal and coffee.

same here, im not using any gluten free products as they can be worse for your blood sugar and insulin levels than wheat, unless i really want a pancake then ive got a little gluten free baking mix, but that's very rare. I eat more protien and more fats than carbs, most days. I use almond or coconut milk in my coffee and protien drinks. I use zucchini in my lasagne and spaghetti squash for my spaghetti noodles. Breakfast is a two egg omlet with veggies like spinach, mushrooms, onions, tomatoes, etc and a couple pieces of bacon. Sometimes ill do some greek yogurt with stevia as its higher in protien.

The way I eat is almost exactly like Alliwan. I occasionally use GF baking mix for biscuits but 90% of my diet is grain free. Most days it's pretty easy...except on days I want a bagel. :)
Quick suggestion for pancake substitutes: banana protein pancakes! Mix together 1 ripe banana, 2 eggs, 1 scoop of protein powder, and some vanilla/cinnamon. Fry like normal pancake batter. It's really good, IMHO, and the texture is similar to "normal" pancakes.
