Newbie question

Hey ladies, I have a question, perhaps a stupid question for some but I'm really unsure so here goes. I just started lifting using Stronglifts this week and I was wondering if doing any cardio on lifting days is advisable or if I should just do cardio on the days I don't lift heavy; well it's at least heavy for me right now because I'm a newbie. Today I did "B" and did a 10 minute warm up on the eliptical and squeezed in another 10 minutes at the end before I stretched; the days that I don't lift, I do 30 minutes on the eliptical. I've been exercising on and off for many years but like many, I've been following bad advice (ie cardio junkie, women shouldn't lift heavy, not giving my body enough time to rest, yada yada yada, you get the idea) and I want to do things the right way for a change. I've used weights in the past but this is the first time I've gone heavy so this is all very new to me. So far I love lifting and I wish I had started sooner lol!

I do cardio on my Stronglift days but I always do Stronglifts first because strength training is my primary focus. I refuel with a Lara Alt bar after lifting and then do cardio either in the form of 20 minute walk/run intervals or a spinning class. Works for me.

The only cardio I do is an 8 minute rowing warm-up before lifting. I'm doing 5/3/1 four days a week. So far I am losing .5 lbs a week. I used to be a cardio junkie and couldn't shed the pounds.

    Cardio? what's that?!
I sometimes do a HIIT session on the bike after lifting (takes 8 minutes) but I'm a cardio loather, and reckon running up the stairs to the gym does for me.. my heart rate regularly gets up to about 160 while I'm lifting too.
  • Thanks ladies! Much appreciation for the answers. I'm probably still gonna do a little bit of cardio on my lifting days but will save the bulk of it for the days that I don't lift.
