Working & hoping for VBAC, considering delaying tubal.

Hi Mommas! Up until a few weeks ago my plan was to have a VBAC & then have my tubes tied. Now that I'm getting closer & actually thinking about the procedure I'm debating waiting a few months. I feel like if I'm able to have a successful VBAC that I probably wont want them to do anything to me right then. Does that make sense to anyone? Anyone have any input that would help? Of course if things end up where I actually NEED a c-section, thats different.

I was going to put it in my birth plan that should the need for a c-section arise to do the tubal then. Then I realised that making this decision is probably not best when you have raging pregnancy hormones, or even a screaming newborn! I will, however, be 36 years old and have five kids at that point, but would still rather wait until littlest is six months to be absolutely certain that I won't regret it. Plus, as I'll be EBF I' won't be able to leave baby for a few months, even as a oneday outpatient. I'll probably start the ball rolling at my 8 week check up, get referrals going etc, but not have the procedure for a few months. I want to be 100% certain and have all my strength back first ideally, for a quick recovery.0

I'm 37 and just had my third child. All three were c-sections, but I was hoping for a vbac with the third. I didn't think I was quite ready for a tubal, but when the Dr. was doing the c-section, he said any further pregnancies would be dangerous for me and the baby. Since I had talked to him with my husband before the c-section, he was ok with going ahead and adding the tubal when he did the c-section even though we had said no right before the delivery. I'm glad I had it done now. I don't have to worry about bc anymore, and it is just done.0

I'm getting Essure at my first appointment after the baby is born. This is our 8th, and I'm completely certain - actually, this baby is the "just one more" compromise after we had already made the decision for me to get fixed. Essure is supposed to be much less invasive (and more effective) than a tubal, but I still don't think I'd want to get it done immediately after giving birth. Once I've got my baby in my arms, I want to focus on her, and on getting breastfeeding going.
PS, I've had three VBACs, and after the first I felt so amazing about what I'd accomplished, I certainly wouldn't have wanted anyone doing anything extra to me right then. I just wanted to hold my baby and bask in the glow. :-)0 -
Thank you ladies. I'm pretty sure I'll just hold off. I don't think I'd want anyone doing anything extra to me either. :-). Unless, of course, I do not get.my VBAC. Which would really be heartbreaking. Thank you for your input. :-) :-)0

I just had a conversation with an OB yesterday about this whole thing. I actually see midwives, but had to be referred to see an OB to talk about a tubal. He said that if I have another successful natural childbirth vaginally, he would prefer me to wait and come back 4-6 weeks after the baby is born to do the tubal. He said that it can be very painful if you have a vaginal delivery and then go and have the tubal done the next day. He wants his patients to be able to enjoy their baby without the added stress of pain from an incision. I would say wait for awhile to make sure that you are definately done having children. This is my 4th and this baby-making machine is being closed down for business!!! My Husband and I are very much on the same page. Besides, we feel that if we definately want another child later down the road (I'm 33 and he's 39), there are plenty of babies out there for adoption.0
