Aspies out there? (And a general intro)

Hello, all! I don't see a general introduction sticky here, so I'll go ahead and make my own little intro thread.

I'm a 21-year-old female in Indiana, and I've recently come across the term "Asperger's." Growing up, I've always known I was different in many different ways. I had funny little hand positions or signals that I used when communicating or walking. I had a very hard time picking up on social cues (I still do oh-so much) and usually was deemed "weird" or got made fun of my not doing so. I had a few bouts of small obsessions (same jacket tied the same way around my waist every day for 3 years, clean bandages on some fingers for 5 years but no wounds, etc.) growing up, too. I also took (and still sometimes take) everything literally, especially jokes. I never understood how someone could "just be joking" with certain things. I still don't. I've got a nice little long list that matches really well with anything known about Asperger's, too, but I won't keep going on forever.

I have not had an official diagnosis, but I have started therapy recently, and my therapist is going to screen me for that and a few other things (depression, anxiety, bipolar 2, and many others associated with Asperger's). I am slightly relieved, though, because if it just so happens that I do have this, then I'll have found a name for myself. It's almost like a relief to finally, after not knowing what was remotely wrong with you for so long, find at least an arrow pointing towards a direction to finally get help and learn how to communicate with others (I have a very hard time doing so).

So, that being said, hello! If there any Aspies (as I have found out the name is) out there, feel free to add me! Let's support each other in our weight management goals! If you don't have Asperger's, you can still add me if you want! I like meeting many kinds of people. Helps me practice my social skills :) I also fully support Autism awareness and find the spectrum to be absolutely beautiful in a very human sense. So, hi!

Welcome to the group. I am not an aspie but a parent of one. To her, she's normal, everyone else has a problem. LOL

    Hey, I'm 19 and I have Asperger's.

I didn't find out until adulthood. It's self-diagnosed (but it didn't hurt my suspicions any when my nephew was born deeper into the spectrum and now has an official diagnosis of mild autism). Until now, I always knew something wasn't right but I just had to forget about it and move on because there was no clear answer.

Anyway, nice to meet you. You sound a lot like me.

By the way, I love your profile picture.
