I'm just wondering what peoples thoughts were on them, and what, if any, they took and what their reactions were to them. The reason I ask is that I normally never take them, because when I do, I feel all jittery, my heart races, and I get nauseaous during the workout. When I was getting ready for my workout this morning, I found I had one last sample pack of a pre-workout supplement, so I figured I would take one, because it had been months since the last time I took one, so I figured I would try them again and see if I had the same reaction, or if it actually helped me. Well it didn't Almost from the get-go in my workout, I was feeling just so "off", and then the feeling of nausea came on so bad during the WOD that I could not finish. I'm still feeling like I'm vibrating a little but now, hours after I took it and did the workout.
So I am just wondering if anyone else uses them, and how you react to them. Clearly they are not for me, and I have been getting along fine without them, so I don't think I need to expreiment with them again in the future!

I don't really use a pre-workout supplement. I do try to make sure I have some protein and some carbs anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes before I work out. I know that there are people at the CrossFit I attend as well as folks at the regular gym where I also have a membership who do use these types of things.
I imagine one day I may look into it when I feel like I'm starting to get to an actual competitive level. Sorry I don't have more info.0 -
it sounds dangerous? I don't know much about them, but it definitely sounds like the ones you've tried aren't meshing well with your body at all.
I just make sure I eat a really balanced light meal/snack before a workout0 -
i take muscle pharm assault sometimes... that being said, i only take it if we are doing a heavy strength set the first part of class or if i go in to do some extra strength stuff on my own. i don't find it to be beneficial for gymnastic based stuff. i also don't find it to be beneficial for a WOD that is over 5 minutes... hence I literally only take it before something like Grace. Pretty sure it helps me pump out the last few reps.
MP assault is lower in caffeine and stimulants than most, and for some reason it doesn't make me crazy thirsty like other pre-workouts. I also like their Amino-1 BCAA powder if I am working out at 6am in a totally fasted state0 -
I take bacon.0

Pre-workouts always did the same thing to me. So much so that I can no longer focus on the work out and just have to wait for it to wear off. I think there are just some who mentally handle the effects better than others. I also prefer to try to stay as natural as possible, so they just aren't for me.0

I am bad at getting anything into me before my morining workouts. If I'm working out at 6a, or 7:30a then I generally work on an empty stomach. If I do any later class then I do try to have at least something light in me beforehand.0 -
I don't take any supplements, I eat a balanced breakfast before I go to my box...3 eggs, 3 cups spinach, 2 oz turkey slices and 2 oz plantain or sweet potato. I eat 3/4 before and the rest when I come back with my protein shake. I also take my Fish oil and multivitamins. that's about it!!!
Sorry they messed you up, but if you function great without anything, then continue what you are doing. That raising heart feeling is scary!!!!!0 -

Yeah...that's twice I've dealt with it and it did freak me out a bit. My heart was racing for awhile afterward and the fact that my body still felt like it was vibrating well after I took it was crazy. I had one of the coaches there try telling me just to dial back the amount I take, but think I'm just done with them. Not worth it.0 -
since you work out so early in the morning... you could try taking just a BCAA powder. it doesn't have any stimulants in it, and marginal calories, but will help spare muscle mass if you are working out in a fasted state. when i WOD in the early morning (thankfully not any more schedule permitting) i always drank BCAAs pre/during my workout.0

Thanks for the tip! I'll have to look into that. I have to get my workouts in early (most days at least). If I don't, then there's too much of a chance that my day will get in the way and I will miss it. I'm not a morning person, but it does help at least get the blood flowing!0 -
You can't work out on an empty stomach..unless you want to work out sub par every time. It sounds like you're going to have to set your alarm 5 minutes earlier to be able to grab some nuts and fruit from your pantry. Boil a dozen eggs one night and store them in the fridge..they make for quick eats too.0
