Hello. I've always been intrigued with this app, and have been in a workout rut for almost 2 months, so when I got an ounce of motivation today I downloaded it and began.
I did "The Story Begins," and am confused about when to run and when to walk. I would hear a 3-5 minute narrative every few minutes and sometimes they would say something like, "Hurry, go as fast as you can," and I assumed that meant I should run. But then they never told me to stop running. Is that feature just not really part of "The Story Begins" (it comes before Week 1 Workout 1), or am I doing something wrong or not interpreting the narrative correctly?
I'm not sure if it matters, but I didn't have it synced with a playlist (I don't have any on my phone yet). I was just playing Pandora and pausing it when they started talking, and could hear just fine.
Thanks for any help/information. I'm excited to keep going. For me, starting is always the hardest part, so am happy that I was able to start.

Hi
this first mission is just an introduction to give you a bit of background, I walked the whole one (walking was a huge effort for me then too!). I've also heard but can't confirm that when you step up to Zombies Run , the same mission is given as an intro there too.
I use a play list but I don't think you have to, I think the talking bits are just timed to be said at certain intervals. I am also pretty sure that zombies can't actually catch you in training, but they can in the Run app.
Your story will start in the next mission and you will definitely know when you need to run and when you need to walk or slow down. I am not sure what kind of fitness background you have, but I went from doing nothing to using this app, so I am not able to run much during freeform runs (where you can walk or run depending on how you feel), but even for that you will be told that you can chose what is best for you during that time.
This has been awesome getting me out of bed and I look forward to the what I am going to find out next.0 -
Hi, ScubaAmyMN!
I have both the Zombies Run 5K and the regular Zombies app. Mission 1/Workout 1 is the same for both apps so I think it's designed to just set a baseline. I think I sped up once or twice when I did it but mostly walked.
I ended up creating a playlist because I usually listen to podcasts when walking and it was too confusing to switch back and forth between different stories. Sounds like you've got something figured out, though, for Pandora.
As Qski said, the story is really motivating. And it's really funny when you start to imagine the things they talk about in the story surrounding you. The other day, there were a bunch of 12 year old boys running around the park where I do my Zombie run. They were playing hide-n-seek but I found it really easy to imagine them as zombies! :-)0 -
If you use the winamp app (it's free) and create a playlist both Zombies,Run apps will use it "in app" eliminating the need to pause the music and/or possibly missing part of the story dialog. Really nice when you listen to the radio missions in the ZR regular app - sounds just like a real radio station0

Thanks for the tip, cyn! Come join us over in the weekly postings of progress! We've got a little (but growing!) group of Zombies, Run! 5K people giving each other encouragement!0
