Looking for motivation?

Okay, as Carol knows I've been struggling for some time now (since July or August... it's been a major a battle since then), but this last week was a bit better. Why? Because a friend and I challenged each other to a "No Excuses" week. In other words, we could not use any excuse to eat badly, not exercise, etc.

What helped was the fact I was in this challenge with a like-minded friend. We texted each other almost every day (Saturday, there was steady stream of texts!), and just kept reminding each other we could do it. We weren't perfect, but being accountable to each other helped a lot.

So... if you are looking for accountability, motivation, focus or a good old fashioned kick in the butt... This is a great place to start. We can challenge each other as a group or if there is someone you click with (here or elsewhere!) then do a duo challenge. To be accountable, you could post here, send a message via fitnesspal, text, or stalk each other via Facebook.

If anyone has ideas for a group challenge (a week of clean eating or a week of tracking or getting some type of activity in a certain number days during the week, etc), I would be more than willing to participate. Would love to hear some ideas from this awesome group!

LOOOOVVEEE this! And congrats to you and your buddy for such a great week. I know you're proud of that.

Did you see the squat challenge we are doing on Facebook for October? Squatober? It was quite a commitment. But it is AMAZING how people are sticking to the 200 squats a day. People keep posting about how the fact that they are doing a challenge with other people is what is really making the difference. I agree and I agree with you. The accountability is so powerful. And it makes it FUN. That is the whole reason we do a COMMUNITY juice fast. Waaaaayyyy easier to do it with others.

The crazy thing is the more you do the healthy things, the easier they are to do. You start moving away from your old habits. Sure, I still miss diet soda and bread on a regular basis but it is way easier now to decide if I am going to treat myself or indulge. So if we know that it gets easier, whatever we need to do to get further down the road is super important. If it is a challenge, let's do it!

Everyone is doing such different things, maybe we can do a water intake + physical activity challenge for a week. Get out and move for 30 min every day and drink 8 glasses of water each day? If folks make their food logs visible, we can see how much physical activity and how many cups of water.

    Any other ideas??

    Thanks Stacy!!

This is so great! I'm glad you and your friend could find a challenge to motivate each other. Carol is right about the group thing. Before this month, I had never done a single squat in my life. Here I am, 25 days later, and they're just so easy to do now. I think Phillip(the guy hosting the squat challenge) is trying to think up something for next month. You guys should join in.

Love the water challenge idea. I'm always hit or miss with that. Some days great, other days... well, next to nothing!

Should we do a weekly challenge to keep it small and manageable? Then we can switch it up from week to week as people come up with little changes they would like to make. We could do a week long water challenge starting Sunday and then the following week do an activity challenge? Or are you thinking more long term, like a month?

I think we could do some different things to mix it up. Maybe one week do water intake, then another do crunches and maybe add 2 more to make a full month.

I don't know if I can keep up with separate challenges!! Phillip will invite all of us on Facebook (or let us invite each other) to join him in "Abvember." I think it will be a combination of Abs/crunches and water intake he said.
For MFP we could keep it really simple and see who logged in every day in November. At the end of the month, we just look through this group and see who has 30 or more days logged in. What else yall got?
Anyone wanna be in charge of tracking it if we go more complicated?
