What's your holiday-season antidote?

I was looking to shake things up a bit so I'm starting Insanity today (whoo-hoo). I'm excited because the program is two months and it will carry me right through the holiday season. My hope is that taking on this extra challenge will keep me from packing on holiday pounds.
So... what is everyone else doing to prevent holiday weight gain this year??
disclaimer: Yes, I am still affiliated with the company that sells these workout videos but this is in no way an advertisement. I didn't even include a link. lol.

I continue to exercise and I eat in moderation. If i deprive myself of something, I'll end up binging later.
Thanksgiving/Potlucks/Christmas - I eat a light breakfast and pig out at lunch....but, I load up on turkey and veggies (lots of sweet potatoes). 1 slice of pie. We have a late meal, so it's usually enough to cover me for lunch & dinner.
Sweets/Snacks - I'll do my best to avoid it, but if I'm really craving it, I will take a small sampling. Or, if I take a slice of pie, cookies, etc, I'll eat a salad for lunch and make sure to counter my calories that way.
The best thing I did last year was to watch my calories on here. I actually planned out my parties before I left the house, anticipating drinks and food. If I went a little over, I didn't stress about it. As long as you don't stop exercising completely, everything will still be fine.0 -

Well said, I agree.
I have a regular exercise routine so that won't change, but I do eat some in moderation. It can be hard but takes alot of willpower.
This year I am having surgery on December 19 that needs a healthy weight so I have been working my butt off to get off the 10 lbs I consumed via beer this summer (LMAO!!) so that right now is my motivation to push me thru to Christmas.
Since I will be bed ridden after my surgery I am sure I will have way too many treats....I have to figure out how to keep it all in check becuase I won't be able to exercise for 2 months...walking only is allowed and I am used to doing high intensity cardio/weights. Ugh, any ideas for that, I am game to hear them!! thanks0 -
Many people I know dread this time of the year with all the holiday parties, food, etc etc. I am not worried one bit. I've lost lbs. every holiday season. I ate what I wanted, didn't restrict myself in anyway and stayed active. My only worry is all the NYR's come Jan flooding the gym. It's super busy, even in the mornings making it really difficult to get in a good workout which when that happens I'll just go outside. It's cold, sure, but I actually like the colder weather.0

I agree that it's really busy in the gym from Jan-Mar. If you can go during odd hours it's not so bad. I usually prefer to go right after work, but during those months I'll shift my workout to 7:30/8. It actually works out well because I need to to that when the kids start Little League in March anyway.0 -

I haven't thought much about the holidays yet, but I will add to be careful doing Insanity. It's an excellent workout but can be tough on the knees, joints and feet. I had a plantar fasciitis flare from it.0 -
I just live with the hope that "gained quickly = lost quickly".0

I always believed that til I went on two trils last year and gained 23 lbs that took almost a year to work off!!0 -

Agreed,... last year I noticed it was shorter lived, like early Feb!0 -
I'm really not too worried about it. I managed to maintain through the last holiday season as well as through a cruise eating rich four-course meals. I would still love to lose weight, but I feel like I'm finally in a spot where I know what I can eat and not go overboard.
That said, I'm doing a six-week boot camp session through my gym beginning Wednesday. It isn't so much that I'm worried about gaining weight around the holidays, but that I would like to lose more in general. I find that with other people around I tend to push myself so much harder and this is the first evening session they've offered so I jumped on it.0 -
It is really going to be hard for me since I can't really do cardio for awhile. Even when I get my cast off I am going to be in a boot probably through most of the holiday season. Saturday I googled how to exercise with a cast on and going to have to start doing some of those. I have gained about 20lbs since I sprained my left ankle at labor day and had only been able to work out on it about 2 weeks before I fractured my right ankle.0

I don't have any holiday plans except maybe my company party, so that one night won't ruin everything.
All of my family is out of state and friends invite me over but I just stay home and relax. ENJOY! Good job planning to stay on track!0 -
I'm actually really excited to have more time for the gym once classes wrap up in a month, besides splurging a bit on Thanksgiving and Xmas day the holidays don't present much of a challenge. I don't have a hard time turning down sweets, they never really did much for me, however fast food is still a crutch but I try to fit it into my daily calories when I have that urge0
