Cyclocross Challenge - Another Mad Idea ??

I've had another wierd idea for on-going points scoring challenges...
this one's based on the whole "Cyclocross Vibe" - i.e. "I hour and a Lap"
So, here's the idea. You go out, you ride your bike for a minimum of 1 hour outdoors, with a route in it that includes a loop in there somewhere. 1 Point for a all-road ride, and because I know quite a few of us get out the 'cross bike, MTB or Fatbikes at this time of year to save the carbon flying machine, 1 extra point if a "substantial" amount of the route is on what I usually refer to as an "unmetalled" route - i.e. not hard Tarmac or Concrete road surface.... So in the UK for example that'd include Canal Towpaths (with the relevant waterways "passport" of course ), Bridleways, BOATs (byways open to all traffic), and Sustrans cycleways.
Same as the Base Builder Challenge - all points Accrue between 1st November and the weekend before the spring classics kick off...
Anybody with me, and, more to the point, anybody seen my Cowbell ???

As an example of a route I cobbled together, there's this one ... http://www.strava.com/routes/62058
Note: the loop is in the middle of the ride - if you're using Strava's security feature, and you decide to make the loop at the end of the ride (i.e. you get home then ride around the block once, Strava may hide the loop if it falls inside the "security perimiter" - I started this one from Pat's Cafe instead0 -
This works great for me...I put on the studded tires and MTB right through the winter!0

I'm trying to "cover all the bases" really
- A nice long steady distance thread for those that live in the temperate zones
- A Fast and hard Muddy Fun Ride thread for nutters like me that ENJOY ruining their washing machine with kilo's of silt in the pipework
- some form of indoor training thread (which I can't quite "put my own kind of spin" on at the moment, but maybe I'll think of something on todays ride...)0 -
Love this!0

This thread needs more cowbell...

Now, this one I could see doing.0

The loop requirement is easy for me & I've a fat bike :drinker: :drinker:0

I immediately thought of the towpath between Rotherham and Sheffield. Then remembered that when I first ventured along that route, the sand being thrown up from the front wheel ground the gears down inside a couple of months.
I was a complete novice at the time and it was a very cheap bike with zero maintenance, but it was truly knackered.0 -
Ok so I'll be crazy and opt in for this one as well. Now the thing is, after each ride I'll have to decide which thread to post under So, over 50km goes into the distance thread (these will be only a few), and all other outside rides will go into this one. Stationary rides go under the Indoor thread. Easy Peasy!0

if they've got a "gratuitous loop" included and they're over a hour in duration they go in here... no loop, or less than 60 minutes no need to log 'em.0
