Holiday Stress Triggers. What are yours?

In general, what are your main holiday stress triggers? For me, anything related to having lots of people over, aka, entertaining. This year I don't have to worry about it as we just moved to an area where we do not know lots of people and have no family close by. However, that brings about other stressors, such as politely having to say "no" to certain food and drink items to those that graciously invite me and my husband to their homes for the holidays, all due to food allergies, trying to be "good," etc, etc.

So, here is an opportunity to get it off your chest what drives you most crazy about the holidays. The next topic is for ways to address the issue and allowing others to help you with the process.

Woohoo! The holidays are just around the corner and they SHOULD be fun:)

Oh boy, I think my stress triggers for the holidays are the fact of soooo much food being around and everyone else eating it. It's unlike normal meals because the food just sits out and makes it easy for you to be a grazer. Also the fact that most holiday dishes just aren't healthy to begin with, so even sampling a small bit of each can throw your day off. And leftovers! Everyone always wants to send you home with some. Holidays in general are so hard to manage. Hoping I'm not the only one with these triggers out there!

Nope! You are not alone in those triggers. Funny, I never heard holiday meals explained like that before, "unlike normal meals because the food just sits out and makes it easy for you to be a grazer." You are correct, it seems like it just sits out for hours and what is really weird that no one seems too concerned with certain items going "bad" or anything like that:huh:

Really any family function involves mass amounts of food that just sit out for you to eat all day if you want! It's awful! And delish. Ugh, what a terrible combination. But at least we know what gets us with these events!

So, to add to the already long list of things I can't eat, over the weekend I was diagnosed with Gallbladder disease, and the painful stones that come with it. So, that means a low-fat diet too! Here is my rundown of what I was already omitting: dairy (which is good for the low-fat) and gluten (not good with a low-fat diet, too). I had originally thought that I would just eat some gluten, in order to have a more balanced diet and just take the joint pain that comes with it, but I have discovered that consumption of foods that one is allergic or has an intolerance to can actually set off a gallbladder attack. So, never mind, I won't eat gluten or high-fatty foods. WTF!
