Is there anyone else with PCOS who is doing the Cambridge Diet?
I have started on stage 3 which is 1000 calories a day rather than stage 1 on sole source.

It would be good to have some support and support others too...

Please don't bother commenting if you don't agree with this diet, I am well aware that this is not everyones idea of a diet but each to their own and you have to find what suits you, plus with having PCOS you all know the battle I have been on for the last 28 years  :explode:

I'd say your first mistake is to ask people to not comment if they don't agree. There are a ton of stupid, fad diets on here. People who have been doing this for a long time, who have learned from some mistakes, will try to save you the time, money and failure or trying some kind of 'diet'.

To each their own isn't really a good mindset- there are plenty of people on here who diet in a very dangerous way. Your way does not = the right way. There is one thing that is one-size fits all and works. Eat less and move more

I stopped at reading this was a VLCD. They are not allowed on MFP, so that must be why you posted in a group. VLCD are not any benefit to people with PCOS. I know most of us have to watch carbs to lose but many of us and eat a healthy amount of food and still loose. I eat between 1800-2000 a day, meat, veggies, fruit and even cake and candy and I still lose fat.

Good luck losing the weight you gain back after putting your body in a VLCD shock! :grumble:

First off, please let me say again - Everyone is different and everyones' bodies react to different ways so please don't comment if you don't agree.... But seeing as you have decided to try and make me feel bad and tell me I am wrong then let me reply..

I am 42 yrs old. I have had PCOS for over 27 years and have battled all my life with my weight - I KNOW what does and doesn't work for me and I KNOW that if I eat 1200 calories a day I GAIN because I have had this happen.... and that is just me, that is MY body..... So please do not tell me this is wrong for me - I have had a specialist endocrinologist at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London who is well respected in her field tell me that I may have to live on 500 - 1000 calories a day as some PCOS women have to do it to lose weight - it's bad luck but that's how it is for some women.. I seem to be one of the unlucky ones

I currently live in Moscow, Russia, you know, that ridiculously freezing cold place with loads of snow and I work very long hours and days with no access to a gym or time off to get to one. The food is of a very low quality and that's when I can actually work out what things are as far as meat etc because I don't speak the language and supermarket workers don't speak English... so therein lies a problem often with supermarket shopping.

Bully for you that you can eat up to 2000 calories a day and still lose weight - well done, big frigging pat on the back for you - but guess what??? I CAN'T so don't tell me I am in the wrong and I should be doing it the same as others ... I AM NOT YOU AND YOU ARE NOT ME...

And once again, let me also mention that this is not a VLCD that I am doing - if I were doing the stage 1 THAT would be a VLCD. I am not doing that. I am on stage 3 which means I won't go into Ketosis and I am eating some fruit and veg and carbs and protein too equalling 1000 - 1100 calories a day which for my body is WHAT I NEED...
So please... next time think before you go in and try to make someone feel stupid... the last time I looked this site is supposed to be about support and help and not about playing god.... I'm almost certain you are not a doctor so I if you don't mind I will follow my doctors advice rather than yours.

You know why some women's have to live on 500-1100 calories a day? The ruin their metabolisms by doing low calorie diets. I also have a friend who used to crash diet on less than 1000 calories a day and now she DOES have to eat very little to lose. Besides a little variance due to metabolic issues, most people's bodies do work fairly similar.

I have NEVER heard or read that some women with PCOS have to live on 500-1000 calories a day. If a doctor told me that, I would seek a second opinion for sure.

Once again, posting a thread and then dissing any information other than what you want to hear will NOT get you far on here.
  • Im a fellow PCOS'er and I tried the Cambridge diet last month. It was hard to begin with but I managed to lose a little over 7kg in 4.5 weeks. I did gain a portion of the weight back as I went on vacation and had to eat (because whats the point) but I have a friend whose doing amazingly well on it. She's down from 104kg to 90kg in about 8 weeks which is a lot of weight. You just need to have a lot of self control, make sure you stay hydrated.

I'm not sure if I'll go back on it but I might try it just to get myself back in the mode. Make sure you don't over exert yourself and keep a check on your blood sugar levels as they might drop!

    All the best!!

Just curious, but have you tried low carb/keto? Most women with PCOS have success with it (from what I've seen, it's the most successful way of eating for losing weight with PCOS), and it's more sustainable than something like Cambridge, since you don't have to restrict calories anywhere near as far.
