Shoe Trouble

With hundreds of trouble free kilometers passing under the treads of my Brooks Adrenaline GTS 12 shod feet, the obvious option for replacement was the latest version, the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 13.

2 weeks and 120 kms later I have a persistent issue I cannot understand.

10-15 minutes into every single run I begin to feel a discomfort in my right foot. The sensation is like there is a narrow bar inside the shoe that is running in a parallel direction to my foot, along the centre-line. It runs from the middle toe down through the ball of the foot.
As the kms progress this discomfort moves to pain.

When I examine the shoe by hand there is nothing I can feel. So I figured I maybe had the shoe too tight so have tried loosening but it makes no difference. Next I wondered if I had picked up a minor injury so today I broke out the old GTS 12's and ran without a hint of discomfort, so I am pretty sure it's the shoe and not my foot.

Before I head back to the running store, has anyone here experienced this and solved it?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I would go on-line and buy every pair of the GTS12s that I could find. It's so hard to find that perfect shoe. Even the same make and model, once updated, is still a new and different shoe.

Do it now, I bet you aren't the only one that is having problems.

I almost always run in the previous year's model for the savings. I also go to every "test run" offered by my local running store so I can figure out what my next shoe will be (Kinvara 4).

I just found out that Brooks is discontinuing the Trance line, so I tried it's lighter version, the Adrenaline 14. I had to make a choice of snatching up all the Trance 12s for $150/pair, or go with the $120 Adrenalines. They seem to be working fine. My LRS will let me return them in a "reasonable" amount of time if they don't work out also.

Could it be that the new shoes are causing you to develop a Morton's neuroma? You usually feel that -- a very uncomfortable tingling and/or burning -- in the middle of the ball of your foot; I don't know if anyone feels it like a bar that travels the length of the foot.
I also don't know if a particular shoe can cause it. But, they do say that high heels, for instance, can cause it. I think I developed one because I was wearing those compression socks. I have never worn them since and it has gone away.
