Needing A Guide & Friend

I am not new to the hypothyroid issue as I have been dealing with it for 10 years now but the last couple of months my weight loss had come to a screeching halt. ... and then began to gain a few pounds slowly over the last few months. After talking with the doctor and running tests I found out that I have mild insulin resistance.
I would love a guide and friend through this. The last week I have been working hard at weight loss to no avail. I am curious if you can shed some light on this for me. What diets or exercises have worked best for you. I see many of you have lost weight and I'm curious of what your secret is.

I know the feeling but don't give up just eat healthy foods and cut out the snacks. The medicine might take a little while to really start working. I have now lost ten pounds, but it's taken two months on this 1200 calorie diet. It's very difficult I agree but you need to stay healthy and do your workouts even if it's just walking. I don't eat after 7PM, cut out the snacking, cut out breads and burgers, switched to salmon burgers, and walk daily 1-2 miles at work or at home with my dog. And I work out with weights 1-2 x a week and step class.
My favorite food now is Celery- Ants on a log. Good luck to you.1 -
I'm 25, was a size 10 when I left school. Stayed in London for almost 3 years, where I was a Vegan for half of the time(because of how they treat the animals). Gained 30 kg's while eating well balanced meals. Came to visit parents in South Africa and went to see a doctor. I started with thyroid medication because I was diagnosed with a Under active Thyroid (hypothyroidism). Started with UK Weight Watchers and lost 30kg's in 8 months!! Felt amazing!! Anyway, I came back to South Africa and socialized more than I was suppose to! Stopped being a vegan, although I really do make sure I know what I'm putting into my mouth. 5 years later, gained 50kg since school. Went to doctor, he prescribed a higher dose of Thyroid medicine and found out I'm insulin resistant. Struggled and then my Gynecologist prescribed yet a higher dose of that medication and now I'm actually starting to lose weight when I eat right and exercise. I studied nutrition and try to stay on the right path. Not always that easy but definitely motivated now!!!0

I am no expert, but I will be happy to pass along some things I've learned. It's great that you have a dr that has identified you as insulin resistant and is aggressively treating you with metformin. Poor thyroid functioning leads to greater insulin resistance and vice versa, but my understanding is you need to get your thyroid medicated properly first. What are your T3 levels? That's arguably the most important since it reflects how much thyroid is actively being used by your body. Insulin resistance can cause you to not convert T4 to T3 properly, so if your current med is not helping you achieve a normal T3 you may consider asking your dr to add it to your therapy or consider switching to a natural desiccated thyroid med like Armour that will give you some T3. Www.stopthethyroidmadness.com is a great site for more answers. Regarding insulin resistance, here are some things you may like to try: https://authoritynutrition.com/14-ways-to-lower-insulin/
There is a lot of promising info coming out about thyroid issues responding well to an anti-inflammatory, paleo-type diet. Perhaps not surprisingly, that diet style is recommended for insulin resistance as well. I find this lifestyle challenging and keep falling off the wagon, but if you'd like a companion on the road, please friend me.0
