I'm just wondering how long to try naturally before asking for fertility medication. I've been trying for 9 months and am 21. Lost a pregnancy in June and cycles are getting longer and longer. My last cycle was 45 days,

We tried for about 10 months before going on Clomid, and it was about 14 months before we saw a fertility specialist. Our second round at the Fertility Specialist did it for us. I am now 10 weeks pregnant. Make sure that whatever DR you see that they monitor your folicles. You don't want to keep taking a fertility drug if it's not doing anything.

I only tried for 5 months before going on metformin... but my hair was falling out in handfuls so that was fairly distressing to me. But I intend to keep trying that natural stuff + met for another 6 months or so before looking into more specific fertility drugs.

You are still very young, so you have time, but I would probably try to get a referral to a specialist after a year of trying.

Are you using natural progesterone cream as part of your regimen? If not you should look into it, because it can help maintain a pregnancy, and should also help shorten your cycles.

    Good luck!

Most doctors will require that you try for a year before they will do fertility treatments, however they can treat the PCOS before that. I went to the doctor after only three months because my hair was falling out and my cycles were becoming too long (and were eventually non-existent). They will do Metformin long before they'll do the fertility drugs and that did the trick for me. It still took a long time (a year and a half total) but it worked. I'm 29 weeks pregnant with my second.
