I am new to the group, looking for weight loss buddies.
To share a little about myself, I had damage done by a doctor when I had surgery for a bladder suspension and a tubal clamp. When I woke up in recovery I was in agony... but it wasn't from the surgical sites. It was from my left hip. I still don't know, over 7 years later exactly what was done to it but by three years following the injury I was crippled with pain. I couldn't walk half a block to the store let alone back again. I couldn't do housework or stand to do dishes without being in extreme pain. Needless to say the injury to my hip made other parts of my body very painful. three years following the injury, I was able to have exploratory surgery and debris was removed from my hip joint. We still don't know exactly what the issue was but that surgery allowed me to live a less painful life and begin to function more normally again.
As I recovered I realized that my body hurt... everywhere. We figured that it was my body just being messed up from the changed walk and stature due to the pain I had previously but as time went on we realized that there was something more happening. Eventually I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. My biggest pain issues are from the waist down. I am in daily, sometimes extreme pain in my legs. In March I had to have a full hysterectomy due to fibromyalgia related issues and, oddly enough, following that surgery the pain in my hip pretty much stopped. We have no idea why.
I had complications during the procedure that caused me to lose enough blood that I should have had a transfusion and a 6x6cm section was removed from the left side just below my ribcage. I am in enough pain that it feels like I did about 8 weeks after surgery... where you are almost healed but still hurting when you do certain things. Anyway, I am having pain from the surgical sites from the hysterectomy so I have put most of my exercise on hold except yoga until I can see my doctor.
Now that I have rambled on for way too long, I want to say that I am so glad this group exists. There are so many people out there who are able to do these really great workouts and then there's me. I would love some buddies that I can relate to in terms of frustrations and an inability to exercise sometimes or never, depending on the person. Weight loss is different for us I think and we all need all the support we can get!

Hi Sig and gang!
I'm new too, and unfortunately, it looks like the group's slowed down.I feel the same regarding the site that so many are doing these big workouts, and I'm lucky to get out of the house! It sounds like we have some areas of pain in common. I had endometriosis symptoms for quite a while, and had exploratory surgery and removal right out of college. I ended up with extensive nerve damage in the pelvic area, left hip, bladder, and bowel. Since the nerve in the hip (obturator, actually curious if that nerve may have been affected in your surgery) was not in the area and so many nerves were injured, other doctors feel the surgeon turned the laser too high and my nerves tried to conduct the electricity. I've been disabled since. I also had back surgery at 19 after slipping at work when I was 17, and had that and another disc fused 7 years ago. I've been told I have fibro, but since I'm on all the same medications for the nerve pain my doctor didn't want to investigate further. The hardest thing now is while the back is solid, most the exercises that are good for the core and back irritate the nerve in my hip, and that leads to the groin/pelvic flare-up.
My back surgery was about 5 1/2 years ago and I gained a lot of weight afterward. Turns out my hormones are real low and I'm currently in the midst of trying to find out what's going on. My cycle stopped which is heaven with having endo, but some other side effects cropped up and I became more serious about getting answers. I'd been trying to lose weight along the way but have kept gaining a few pounds a month, so after needing my gallbladder out and needing a liver biopsy, I found out I have an "unusual" fatty liver. My enzymes are high and there's concern I have NASH, which is basically scarring of the liver and at the worst, acts like an alcoholic's liver and can turn into cirrhosis, which scared me enough to get serious about getting this weight off. I was on another site for a month and then came here, and while I did great the first 4-5 months, it's been real hard to get the weight off and weight loss has completely stalled for the most part despite staying at 1200 and sometimes under. Of all things, I'm stuck at 199-201, which is irritating as all get-out! My highest was 135 which is what my doctor had noted and was 199 a few week's ago, then went up after I was on antibiotics. The highest I was before this was 180 so the weight gain was very frustrating as I was doing my best to eat healthy afterward, just was dealing with a lot more pain and couldn't do much.
I think there may be a fibro group, I believe one of my friends joined one on here. I thought I'd let you know that since this board hasn't been too active lately. I'm sorry to hear of your pain and complications. I'd love to be your friend if you'd like, same goes for others who may be interested in supporting one another!

Sig and Kathy hang in there - I too have had painful challenges to try and overcome. It's sad when you see others walking with ease and wish you too could do that. I was told by my Physical therapist years ago- baby steps and move as much as you can whenever you can however you can. I am now up to walking 10/15 minutes daily and I can go food shopping on my own as long as I hang onto the cart. May seem like small accomplishments but to me they are mountainous achievements. During this time I have gained a lot of weight and now I am trying to shed some of those pounds - so again baby steps - so far 6 lbs have been shed. I want to change what I eat and loose the weight slowly. The people on here are wonderful and with their help we all can get to where we want to be. Just never give up and don't let the pain hold you up- you just need to do it using baby steps and each day you are able to move is a wonderful day to keep moving. Love and respect who you are and the challenges that we endure each and everyday and what we are able to accomplish is a real feat. Sometimes we forget how special we all are, hanging in there and making it thru a day. It's an arduous and admirable feat that requires a huge amount of discipline and drive to keep us moving forward. We are strong and we can do it!:flowerforyou:0

Very well-said Kmouse! I agree about baby steps as it's not as easy to lose when it's tough to exercise, but taking it slow and knowing we won't be losing it all in a few months is important, and celebrating each victory is important. That's been a bit tough with how my weight loss has completely stalled and keeps bouncing between 199-205, just go under darnit!
Congratulations on being able to shop, I know that's a huge deal and one of the toughest things for many of us! I too am a cart hugger, and make sure to have my groceries separated into what needs to go in the fridge NOW and what doesn't need to go in the fridge so I can rest a bit when I get home. Walking 10-15 minutes is a big deal, congratulations! It's definitely major for us to not compare ourselves to others who don't have physical limitations or even "who we used to be". I think the latter is the hardest and takes some time to reach, but probably the most important.
I love your post, thank you so much for your upbeat post and wise words. And congratulations on losing 6 pounds, you really will feel a difference as the weight comes off on how much easier it is to walk and move compared to having extra pounds. I have a long way to go, but the weight I've lost has helped in my standing and walking limits just because it's not adding extra pressure on my back.
I hope people in this group start posting again, I think it's important to have a group of people who understand. I've been lucky in the handful of friends I made when I joined, but would love more friends on here if you two are interested or anyone else dealing with pain.
