    That's a hell of a lot of money for a steel-framed bike...

    That's not too bad for a steel framed bike. Steel is light, flexible and durable. It would be a hell of a lot of money for an aluminum framed bike but that's not too bad for steel. Still a lot of fad price in there but not too bad for steel. Steel is lighter and more flexible than aluminum. It's more durable than Carbon. It's definitely more affordable than Titanium. There are several high end road bikes made of steel.

    We see fat tire bikes on the trails here in Colorado all the time. From what I understand, big tires really help on certain terrain types and are very popular in Alaska. People that ride them here seem to enjoy the double looks and comments and the huge legs required to push all that over normal surfaces.
