Marvel Superheroes Online - thoughts?

My son has this on his list for Christmas. From what I can see it's free but it seems like it might be a very closed end game? Or is it like WOW with different quests and stuff to do. They write-up online isn't very informative. Any information would be great. :)

    It's a standard MMORPG type game like WoW but with a stronger emphasis on instanced content (like Guild Wars). One of the biggest differences about it vs. DC Universe Online (its main competitor and the other big superhero focused MMORPG) is that you don't create your own character. You use popular Marvel Comics characters. There is a lot less player interaction as a result of everything being instanced which in my opinion makes it much more suitable for young players (less likely to run into jaded, highly competitive 30-somethings who swear every other word and make sexual innuendos)
