Umm'ing and ahh'ing whether to sign up to this...
Can I commit to riding 500km in 8 days over Christmas & New Year without alienating the family during this 'family time'?
Answers on a postcard please...
Give your legs the greatest gift this holiday by riding 500 kilometers with Rapha and Strava.
Once again, Rapha and Strava are challenging riders around the world to clock 500 kilometers between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.
However, Rapha is not only interested in how fast you go or how far you can push yourself. They also want to see interesting stories, creative ways of documenting each ride, and conscious displays of style on your journey.
Share evidence of your endeavors via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Youtube, blog and the postal service using the hashtag #festive500. The rider who sends Rapha the most creative record of their ride will win a place on a Rapha Cent Cols Challenge in 2014. Learn more by visiting the the Rapha Festive 500 webpage.

And the prize.....entry into a hilly ride next year......erm - I'll take the money ;-)
Still not learnt to love hills - haha!!0 -
Sadly I'll not be going for this one - I'm up in the lakes walking/climbing/getting drunk for 4 days out of the 8... it MAY be a little optimistic to expect that I can hit 125km or more on christmas eve, christmas day, boxing day and new years eve.
I might enter just for gits and shiggles (and lie about my walks being MTB rides) , but don't expect miracles...

... don't expect miracles...
But it's Christmas0 -
Definitely out on this one, even I know where to draw the line. Surely any married family person who's spouse does not also want to partake would not entertain this madness!?0

married family person ?
it's Rapha = Trendy Hipster Single Overpaid Media W-Anchors remember... most of 'em will be so coked up they'll need to ride 500km to burn off the excess bolivian marching powder!0 -
Um....no.
I'll be lucky to break 500km the whole month, much less the last week. Plus I'm not trendy, single or overpaid so I don't even qualify to look at Rapha stuff. :-)0 -
Failed last year! weather permitting0

In the ride over the weekend there was one guy dressed in Rapha head to toe (I guess not a sponsored cyclist judging from the riding ability)

TBY for El Presidente!
A man of few words, but every single on a gem!
Sir, I salute you; a gentleman and a true scholar!
I nearly spat my porridge out all over my screen (& not in the 'Biblical sense' of 'porridge' either!)

the thing about Rapha is... I do actual really like the whole "mythic cycling" image that they build around the brand - the Stories and Films they produce are brilliant and really do hook into the real soul of road racing/riding... The problem is, their gear is bought by fat middle aged non-riders with lots of money and very little knowledge or inclination to do proper research into sourcing the proper kit for their needs. The Core kit is actually really good apparently - always gets well reviewed despite being in the same price bracket as the Assos teknikerfeschts... it's more the silly add-ins that grapple my grape-nuts... £225 for a holdall, £40 for 2 espresso cups and as for the price of the bloody gloves :noway:
But, for me, I'll admit it, as soon as they sponsored Sky, that was it, there's no way I could buy any of their kit - not because I particularly dislike Sky - just that being Fat, Slow and Middle Aged on a Far better bike than my Legs merit, I didn't want to be lumped into the same category that I've just thrown all the other Wiggo Wannabees I pass on my regular Sunday route.0 -
well - I made a frankly pathetic 125km on this one...
well done to the 3 people in the Strava MFP Club who made it though...0
