Low metabolism even with levothyroxin?

I just found this group. I have hashimotos just diagnosed this year but have been treated on and off for hypo for the past 7 years and I'm on generic synthroid, last tested in July.

For most of this year I was losing weight eating no more than 1200 cal, estimated on my own before using the site. Since starting MFP I've found that I'm losing about .5 pounds slower than I should with my intake. Anyone have similar results? Should I ask my doc about other medications to replace the synthroid? Or am I just gonna have to live with an abnormally low metabolism and constant hunger the rest of my life?

Welcome! I know when I took levo I never had any resolution of any symptoms at all. All it did was make my labs look normal. They may have been in range but my body wasn't using that hormone one bit. I was miserable. It could be that your body isn't wanting the synthetic hormone anymore, maybe you need a med adjustment, maybe try adding in some T3, maybe try Natural Dessicated Thyroid hormone, or a compounded form of thyroid hormones. There are several options for you to try. Just gotta figure out what you like and what makes you feel the best.

Thanks. That would explain why my nodule didnt shrink from January to July even though my numbers looked good. I've already an app with my doc to discuss new meds so hopefully I can give the natural options a try.

I did not lose that much weight while eating at 1200 calories or less…I actually lost more when i upped my calories to equal my TDEE-20%. Just something else to consider.
