Better than yesterday (last week, month...)

Ok- This group is all about becoming the best version of you...right? Everyday we are becoming better by making healthy choices in regards to food and fitness. So what did you do today that your former self would never do???

I am going to be stuck at work late so I wont be going to the gym. But my job has A LOT of downtime! It's very hard to not hit the vending machines during the evening hours. (jill814 if you are reading this....you get it right!) Well today I am going to workout in my office. Last year I would have never done that. I would have bought a frozen baby ruth (its pretty cold here) and some chips...and shopped online.

My workout for today

15 desk push ups
15 squats
15 chair dips
sprint the stairs up and down

repeat 4 times

Love that my job allows for all of this fun time!!! :)

    Sweet Post!

I agree...there are things I can do today, that the last 5-10 years I have been unable to do or do as well!

The best thing that comes to mind is my recent Deer hunt.

For as long as I could remember, the one time of the year after I graduated college that I was back home and doing something with my father that I really enjoyed (My dad and I owned a lawn service that we started when I was about 10 years old- so lets just say that our relationship was pretty focused on one thing most of the time) - anyway off point - I really enjoyed it cause I was able to be outside, away from school, and work and just relax. Plus I was racking up the body count over those years, usually taking either a big buck, or in the case of one year, A three shot, three kill harvest in the matter of 60 seconds. 4 deer ran in, I took two out, looked at #3 and said yeah, my dads got a doe tag, and dropped it. 4th ran away....right into my father who kicked them to me. BAM! He drops that one. We still had a tag in camp available, so all good. Then this year, he takes 3 deer in the course of the afternoon all with one kill...which then he laters admits he tried for 4 but missed the kill shot and grazed the brisket. But while talking about that, he said he really wanted to take out my previous record

Now the great thing about this kill, was the tree stand it was in, not only did I get into there before my dad did (it was his stand that he was making his way back to, but found fresh trails and got delayed stalking) - but it was one your had to climb this giant old tree at least 20 feet up, but no ladder....just the screw in pegs, that, when are wet.....are very slippery!!! Back then, I was already gaining weight but I was smaller and able to make it up (mind you huffing and puffing as I was a smoker back then).

Flash forward to two weeks ago....new land, new stand, and for the past month or so....new me! I tried to get up into that stand, and FAILED....I couldn't get half way up the tree (mainly due to the spacing of the pegs) before realizing that I am not the same kid I use to be. Age is catching up, and I am still very overweight, and no matter how much better I have felt that last month with the weight loss and how easier it was to walk in all my gear without needing to rest, I was not going to make that climb. My dad called in being a *****(in the playful sense...deer camp isn't all flowers and ribbons....there are some bunnies...but they don't make it most years), for me it was just being smart.

So while some may see this years event as a downer and not conducive to being better than yesterday, in reality I think that this event does make me better than yesterday. I know that now, more than ever, is a reason to lose weight. I am making the climb up that tree next year!

    Thanks for sharing Jill!

    Stay strong
