Sorry this is late guys, I have been non stop since I got here and until now had some time to sit down in front of the computer.
I got to the race around 7 AM it was cold, (for Phoenix). Not sure why I was so nervous for this race never been that nervous before. I had to use the potty twice before the race started.
On advice from Carson I ran 1 mile to warm up. I was warmed up and checked my gear in since I did not want to wear my sweater during the run.
I was in corral I, the only thing I did not like was that we had to wait 10 mins between corrals. It made my anxiety go up more waiting for our corral to start running. Once the race started I turned on my Nike App and my music and I was off. I was looking for someone to be my running target. For the first mile or so I could not find anyone. After mile one I saw three girls, they were running together, but one of them seemed more serious than the other two. I passed them all but half a mile later the girl I had seen passed me, and that is when I knew she was my target when she left her friends behind.
From mile 2 to 6 I would pass her and than she would pass me. I knew she was running fast when my Nike App told me I was running at 9:40 pace. I was like WHAT!!!! I have never ran that fast. After mile 7 my knees and my IT band started to bother me I knew that I slowed down when she passed me and I could not keep up with her.
I managed to keep my HRM at 180 for most of the race, towards the end it started to go down to 178 and I knew I was slowing down. I still kept pushing to keep my HRM at 180. I had two more miles left and I did not wanted to give up( even thought my head kept saying just walk) At this point I just wanted to finish and I did not walk.
I saw the finish line and I pushed to run a bit faster, it felt good to cross that finish line and earn my chocolate.
I got my official time and here it is
it took me 1:34:10 at a pace of 10:07
5k split 29:18
10k split 1:00:41
Last year I ran this same race but I ran the 5k, my official time last year was 34 mins, pace 10:56 min mile.
I ran my fastest 10k today as well, the time for my last 10k was 65 mins pace 10:27 min mile.
I know that my last 10k was a different course, but that fact that I was able to run a 10k in 1 hour today is AWESOME to me
I am beat, going to ice my knees once my kids got to sleep and I can sit down for a while without moving. I will also foam roll as well.

I ran the Hot Chocolate 5k in Chicago last month. Both the 5k and the 15k started at the same time and shared the same course until the last 1/4 mile of the 5k. There were over 34,000 runners and it was so crowded I got elbowed, shoved and my feet stepped on. I still had a blast doing it. Next year I'll do the 15k. One of my friends that ran the 15k this year said that once they lost all of us "short distance runners" the crowd spread out and they had more room.0

Interesting here in in Phoenix the 5k runners started one hour early, and at the starting line the 5k who started earlier went to the right the 15k went to the left. somewhere along the course we ran into 5k runners I think. And we had corrals did they have corrals?0 -
Yes, we had starting corrals. They 20 of them, A-T. I was in corral P, cuz I'm really slow. (I just started running in July and still have another 40-50 lbs to lose.) The first wave started at 7am, my corral didn't start until 8:05. It rained 3 days prior to the race which left the park where we got our chocolate rather muddy. Despite that and how crowded it was, I can't wait to do it again next year. The energy in the crowd was amazing. I've done a couple of other local 5ks on a much smaller scale. I wonder if all the races in Chicago are that crowded.0
