Quest bars

Hi everyone. Two people asked me about the Quest bars (must be checking my food list!), so I thought I would post here. First, I have no affiliation whatsoever with the company. Second, I've purchased these directly from Quest, through another distributor on Amazon, and know they are available at GNC if you want to try before you buy. They run about $3 per bar, so it isn't insubstantial.
So what about them do I like? Well, they are pretty tasty. The white chocolate raspberry has big chunks of white chocolate and a good flavor. My favorite is the coconut cashew, which sort of has a cookie dough/taffy texture. I'm not a huge fan of the apple pie or the strawberry cheesecake or the cinnamon bun, just because that isn't my preference in bars (I'd much rather have real apple pie and real cinnamon buns). I don't think they taste bad, they just aren't my favorites. What I really like, though, is the ingredient list. I'm looking at the coconut cashew wrapper and it has 1) whey protein blend, 2) isomalto-oligosaccharides (a 100% natural plant fiber, despite the scary name), 3) almonds, 4) water, 5) erythritol, 6) coconut, 7) cashews, 8) sea salt, 9) lo han guo (a plant-based sweetener very similar to stevia), and 10) stevia. That is a decent list, though I wouldn't mind seeing the erythritol disappear. One bar is 170 calories with 20 grams of protein, 6 grams of fat, and 7 grams of carbs if you don't count the fiber.
What don't I like? Well, if you are looking for a Fiber One bar or Power Bar chocolate coated thing, this isn't it. Yummy, but not candy. Some of them are kind of sticky, so you need to be able to wash up afterward. And the expense, of course.
A word of caution: IMHO you should avoid the peanut butter cups. They are so dry they are hard to swallow. Imagine the most dried out stale Reese's you've ever had and make it dryer. The flavor is fine, but I can hardly choke it down. The guys at GNC agreed when I asked them a pointed question about it (thinking that maybe I just got an old one from Quest).

As soon as I start eating a normal diet again, I will try these. I am currently trying to decide if I should do a 4 day total fast or cut off a limb. The re-gain holiday weight has arrived and I am FREAKING OUT. Okay, sorry... how very off topic.
Seriously, I have heard great things about these bars. I do want to try them. Thanks for the great info Cynthia!!

Thanks, Cynthia. Great write up! Whey scares me because of my "volatile" lactose intolerance, but maybe I'll try one at the beginning of the next long weekend. :-)0

My husband I love Quest bars! My favorite is the Chocolate chip and the White Chocolate Rasberry. We buy ours on Amazon (not sure which distributor) and I have bought them (individually and by the box) at GNC, especially if they are running the "buy 3, get one free" special.
My suggestion would be to get a variety pack or go by GNC and pick out two or three to try. Some are great, some are okay and some... well, I'd prefer not to eat them again. LOL
And I agree, stay away from the Peanut butter cups. Better off just having a Reese's PB cup every now and then as a treat.0
