What About Protein??

Hello!

I realize that a juice fast is only meant to be temporary, but how long is it really safe to go without protein?

In the documentary they do the 60-day juice fast...that seems like a long time to go without lean protein when one is exercising.

I have always heard that if we don't get enough protein when exercising that our bodies will begin to break down muscle.

Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

Thanks!

I have the same concerns about protein. I have decided that when I start my juice fast I am going to be adding protein powder into my juices. We need protein on a daily basis--not only for muscle *building*, but also for daily cell functions.

Also, (and go ahead call me crazy), I am going to be adding some fat into my juices as well. Healthy fats are essential on a daily basis. Also, when we have the protein and fat we need, it satiates us--helps curb hunger.

What kind of fat? Organic Coconut oil and grass-fed butter. I've been adding these to my coffee in the mornings and wow! It's wonderful! Here's the recipe: http://wellnessmama.com/5673/the-only-way-i-drink-coffee/

Anyway, I've read an awful lot of posts from people on reboots who, after dropping lots of weight in the beginning, level out and don't lose more. This is natural when one is on a low calorie diet. The body wants to hang on to everything. I just think that if we give it all the nutrition it needs (ie--proteins and good fats) this will alleviate that problem.

I'm doing a 3 day experiment ( on day 3 today ) with juice and vegan protein powder. It's going very well. I'll post initial results, tomorrow.
