Ok- I know we are losing weight for ourselves. Health reason or just to look good...it should be for ourselves and not for other people. But really who doesn't like to hear that all of their hard work is paying off and people can notice! I have to be honest, I haven't received too many compliments. I am not sure if it's because it has taken me aboput 2 years to lose the weight...so it was a slow loss or people just don't want to say something. I try to always tell people they are doing great or that you can see a difference because losing weight is hard. Eating the right food or smaller portions of the wrong food is hard. If it were easy, everyone would be thin. Anyways~ I have gotten off topic.
The best compliment I received was from my daughter...about a year ago. She was in bed and I was starting my cleaning. I tossed my hair up in a pony tail and she called me. I went in her room and she looked at me like she saw a ghost or a monster!!! And then all serious she says "mommy your head..your face...it shrunk!" It was like she had just seen me for the first time since I lost 60 pounds. I know she didn't understand that I was losing weight because I don't talk to her about weight. We talk about being healthy and making healthy choices. So her saying that my head was shrinking made my night and well it meant the world to me. Because its been a year and I still think of her saying that and it makes me proud.
What has been your best compliment so far?

I have had a ton of complements on my dedication taking my walks from people at work along with the congrats when they hear how much I have lost.
Of the ones I can recall on the spot was one from my wife that made her do a double take and then a day later she is getting off her duff to make sure I don't leave her in the dust.
The other was a little more indirect from my friend Scott who called me out of the blue one day and asked me to start walking with him cause he was impressed with the effort he saw on my FB posts (my runkeeper app links all my walks and all my weigh-ins post on my FB also).
A few of my friends on FB started complementing me also, but then they started to try and sell me the weight loss supplements they were selling. BAH! But, they will still keep complementing me as I post.
My biggest response was when I announced to my friends online that I was a diabetic. I didn't want to tell the world just yet....I wanted to put forth the effort and results of the turn around for me alone, not because I would feel guilty if I didn't lose the weight. It was very uplifting to see the support.
I just pray for the day when I can take my shirt off while working in the yard, and not feel like a beached whale!0 -
Thats awesome! It seems like you have a lof of support. Maybe that's my problem...besides MFP not much support. Again- doing it for me, so no big deal!
I love that you made your wife do a double take!! Have you done a double take yourself yet? I did a few months ago walking in the mall. I caught a glimpse of myself in a department store mirror...it was about 20-30 feet away. And my first thought was...oh her hair is cute. then seriously i realized it was me. yeah- i still see myself as I was.0 -
Yeah I have those moments but more from a way I feel my body perspective.. before my arms when flat at me side I could feel my arms brush against my midsection more when I walked but now I don't and I always say how that hasn't been like that in years. Even when I was in good shape I had more of a fatty midsection. Plus now that myabs are strenghtening up I can see a flatter stomach with clothes I wear while standing.0
