Team Carol Challenge Board

Character Description

Carol Peletier was Sophia's protective mother and Ed's abused wife. She has a kind heart and puts herself out for others within the group. However, she can also become meek and overly emotional at times. She seems to gradually get more comfortable now that Ed is no longer there to make her feel out of place. She gets a little claustrophobic when she and the group travel into the CDC. In the second season, she is stricken with grief and depression over her daughter's going missing and eventually being discovered as a walker. She grows very close to Daryl, and gradually builds a sense of previously non-existent self-confidence. She initially doubts Rick's leadership, but later on starts to trust him in keeping the group safe. Throughout the third season she continues to grow into a dependable fighter and survivor and manages to keep herself alive after being separated from the group, when the prison is overrun with walkers. Carol's last discussion with Merle may have contributed to his decision-making in "This Sorrowful Life". Carol seems to share responsibilities with Beth for looking after Rick's baby daughter, Judith Grimes. In the 7 months leading up to Season 4, Carol has started a story time program for the younger kids from Woodbury, which is actually a cover for her self-defense and weapons training course for the children. She has kept the class a secret from Rick and the rest of the survivors. When the father of two children, Lizzie and Mika, dies to a walker attack, she becomes their adoptive mother. Despite Carol's urges, Carl, who has witnessed one of her sessions, tells Rick of her weapons training. Carol kills Karen and David in "Infected, as she believed they were a threat to the group due to their having the flu which was spreading through the Prison. For both the safety of the group and Carol herself, Rick banishes Carol from the group. He gives her a car and supplies so she can make it on her own.

    Week One Challenge Feb 3-8

As a member of Team Carol you need to be prepared if you want to survive alone in the Zombie Apocalypse. Cardio, weight training and balanced eating are all important aspects of staying strong, fast and uneaten.

    Cardio:*
You will begin this first week by completing a minimum of 210 minutes of cardio, which should include at least 45 minutes of combat related exercise such as a martial art like kickboxing.
    Weight Training:**
To preserve lean muscle mass while eating in a deficit, or to gain muscle while eating at maintenance or a surplus, you should start a weight training routine if you haven't already. Weight train or resistance train a minimum 30 minutes 3 times a week.
    Food Intake***
Although food is hard to come by in the apocalypse, you still need to fuel your body properly. Stay within your set calorie goals, maintaining a weekly average. That means you can have a cheat day and go over, as long as you have other days to make up for the surplus. Ideally you should get 1 gram of protein per lean body mass and .35 grams of healthy fats per total body weight. Set your calories and macro targets if you haven't done so already.

Complete the above challenges and send a message to your team captain by Midnight Central Saturday February 8th. The message should include the following:
    1. A short summary of your goals for the duration of the challenge, including your starting stats.
    2. Total Cardio minutes completed out of 210. You will recieve one point for completing the minimum. Completing extra minutes will contribute to your chances at MVP.
    3. Total Strength Training minutes completed out of 90. You will recieve one point for completing the minimum. Completing extra minutes will contribute to your chances at MVP.
    4. Whether or not you stayed within your weekly calorie goal. You will recieve one point for staying at goal.

Your totals will be added to the rest of your team's and with Carol's kills from the December 1st Mid season finale (0) see http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1162909-episode-recap-season-4-part-1-finale and then the total will be divided among the number of team members. Team with the highest average number will win the week and members get to decide on and impose a punishment exercise to all of the other teams, which all players must complete, except the immune MVP's. Winners, new challenges and punishment exercises will be posted on this thread on Monday Feb 10th.

Don't forget to watch the show on Sunday Feb 9th and root for Carol to kill as many Walkers and living enemies as possible. Your team will get 1 point for each Walker kill and 2 points for each living enemy kill to be applied to your team's scores next week.

    Week 2 of challenge:Feb 10-15

This week it looks as if Michone was the big point earner in the episode and then followed by Carl. Carol is still yet to be seen. Since it's Valentines day this Friday and because one of our own has a father with heart troubles, I would like to focus on the heart. Time to think about heart healthy foods and I would like you to include some every day in your diets this week. February is American Heart Month after all. 6 days of one type of heart healthy foods.

Here are 5 of some heart healthy foods:

Strawberries, Tomatoes, Red Bell Peppers, Red Apples and Red Cabbage

You don't have to eat these particular foods but any food that is wholesome and grown from nature are heart healthy. Load up.

This week we are also increasing our cardio to 220 mins for this week. Continue with your combat training(45 mins) and Strength training(90 mins) and keeping your food goals.

For fun: Try to include some backwards walking in your cardio. Carl did a lot of waking backwards, just make sure to look where you are going! A zombie can be right behind you. Share with the board your heart healthy foods this week. Since it is Valentines day, feel free to eat some pudding. lol

Don't forget to check in Sat by midnight CST. Those that don't check in will have to join the zombie hoard unless you have already checked ahead of time with me. We are running 100% and let's keep up the momentum! Excellent job Carols!

    Punishment Exercise has been decided!!

    50 Burpees

When you turn in your scores for the week, let your team captain know how many you did. You must complete the exercises in order to get a point for Strength Training.

    Week 3: Feb 17-22

This week is about forgiveness and never giving up hope. It's time to reach out and help our fellow man. Carol is back and she is helping Tyreese and Mika and Lizzie. This week we are going to help these teams with strength. We are adding 10 mins more of strength to equal 100 mins. Then we are each donating our 10 mins to a team mate from those teams, so pick a member from one of those teams to donate to directly. You can send them a message or write on their board. Since Carol is using a lot of arm strength holding dear baby Judith. Use these extra 10 mins during the week building up your arms.

Cardo: will continue to be 220 mins this week,(including 45 mins of combat)
Diet: will remain the same for the next 6 days (you can continue heart healthy if you wish)
Strength: is 100 mins total with 10 mins donated to team Tyreese/Sasha or Mika/Lizzie , those 10 mins will be devoted to arms.

Feel free to share your favorite arm exercises with the team. Looking forward to more Carol and more potential points!! Go team!

Here is this week's punishment exercises. Team Michonne would like us to do this 4 minute "Bring Sally Up" Squat Challenge, 5 times this week.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CswK7e_Bep8
If you can't access the video, it is 4 minutes of regular squats, but holding in the squat position for a full 3 seconds before rising and squatting again.

Week Four Challenge Feb 23rd - March 1st

What we learned from the show this week was that some strangers are enemies and some appear to be friends and may help you on your journey. The top four highest scoring teams of this week's challenge (which will be announced next Monday) will get to choose Abraham, Rosita, Eugene or Tara to add to their team and have that character's kills added to their team's scores for the rest of the challenge starting with the March 1st episode. Winning team chooses first and so on.

Continuing with the sharing and caring theme, Michonne shared with Carl her some of her deepest and personal past. This week I would like all of you to share something about yourselves on the team thread. Whether there is something we don't know about you that is kind of cool or just how you got your health and wellness/fitness journey started. Let's learn something new about each other this week.

Rick was given orders to rest and recuperate at least one more day. This turned out to be a very un-restful and stressful time under the bed. He also needs a good core to sit still and keep quiet. Time to work on resting/relaxing and core work. This week for your strength, I would like you to do 30 mins of your strength devoted to core work. You can do yoga, planks or any balance exercise that will help strengthen your personal core. I would also like you to spend 5-10 mins each day devoted to relaxing and resting your mind and body. If you do yoga, you will accomplish both task in one work out.

Cardio: Continue with the required 220 mins of cardio this week(45 mins of combat)
    Strength: 90 mins
    Punishment: to be determined
Food: 6 days of your food/nutrition goals

I have a feeling Carol will show up next week ready to blast her way through the walkers. Let's have an awesome week 4 and think about what new character you would like to add to our team.

    Week 5: March 3-8

This week we got a peek into Daryl and Beths lives. We saw them break down, we saw where they came from and we saw them literally burn the past down so they could move forward. Beth says to Daryl, " Stay who you are now, not who you were" This can mirror our own lives as well. Last week we all opened up about our past and told where we came from and now it's time to focus on our goals. This is now week 5 and we are half way through the challenge. Remember your goals for the challenge? Where are you with those goals? I think it's time to turn it up a notch cause we are ready. This is our current lives and we are more than capable of reaching our goals. Cardio is 320 mins this week and I know this team can do it!

Daryl got a bit crazy with the golf clubs this week and showed us that you can get a good work out with golf. Here is a work out you can do for fun and it will give you half of your strength(or cardio if you would rather) for this week.

    http://www.fitnessblender.com/v/full-length-workouts/?str=golf&time_min=&time_max=&cal_min=&cal_max=

This week you will turn in :

Cardio: 320 mins(including optional 45 mins of martial arts)
Strength: 90 mins(35 mins of golf , optional)
Food: average calorie goal for the week x/6
Punishment: out of 5 days x/5

I know this is a lot of cardio but as a team, we can help eachother out. Let's have a good week!

    Week 6: March 10 - 15

This week focuses on two groups: Daryl and Beth, then Sasha, Bob and Maggie. The groups are put with choices, move ahead or stay put. Daryl seems to be getting pretty comfortable with Beth and is ready to stay put and see what comes to them. In return, Beth is taken and Daryl is alone until he finds a new group...a not so great group. Maggie is dead set on moving forward and Bob feels like he belongs for the first time. Sasha is ready to stay put. Maggie pushes on by herself and Sasha tries to settle down and they both end up alone. In the end they decided that being together and moving forward is the best decision after all.

This is a parallel dynamic with two different thoughts. Beth said to Daryl, "There are still good people in this world" While Sasha says to Bob, "We get warnings and the odds are against us". Seems like Beth is hopeful while Sasha is practical. We are going to split our group into two this week. Team "H" for the hopefuls and team "P" for the practicals. We are going to compete with each other with in our own group and the winning teams points will count for the team as a whole when we check in this Sat. I will be looking at cardio, strength, number of punishments(if we have to do them), food goals and over all participation on the board.

    Here are the teams:

Team H: Me, Sawjan, Bebubble, Kawookie, Coruscate7 and Tinkermommc

    Team P: Tj1376, Strive4more11, HajenKatt, Simbersea, Funkygranola and Skittles2183

This week cardio is back to 220 mins, Strength is 90 mins and food again is x/6 and punishment x/5(if that's the format)

We will have one winning team to represent us.

Carol will be on next week!!! Finally!!!

    Week 7: March 17 -22

What an intense episode! We get our heroine back and boy did she have some tough decisions to make. One thing we know for certain is that Carol is most definitely a leader. Carol lost her daughter Sophia because she thought she didn't have a mean bone in her body. She groomed Lizzie and Mika to be strong and to be tough even if it's hard because you have to. However, Mika ended up teaching Carol a thing or two herself and even a leader can learn a lesson. Carol learned a very valuable lesson in that "Everything works out like it's suppose to", as Mika said. Tyreese says, "We are who we are" and that could have meant a lot of things. Mika is who she is and that will never change. Lizzie is who she is and she will never change. Carol is who she is and she will never change but the difference is that she made herself change.

Right or wrong? Mika seemed to know but Lizzie did not. Tyreese said he trust Carol and I think when she confessed to him, he knew she thought she was doing right. I think that's why he forgave her. We need to think like Carol this week because if Tyreese can trust her, then we should as well. Carol said, "Fight, don't give up and change". As hard as it is, we also need to fight and change our lives.

Time to fight! This week combat training is not optional. The current guideline is 45 mins and this week we will up it to 60 mins. You can add this to your cardio total. This week we are fighting to change and we need to push up the cardio and strength a bit too. Cardio this week is 250 mins and strength 100 mins. Push to change. Just 3 weeks left in this challenge and we need to fight to get to our goals. We are strong, we are leaders, we are team Carol!!!!

    Week 8: March 24 - 29th

This week focus on missions and reasons. The small Abraham group is definitely mission based, being that they need to get the red neck doc to Washington to "save the world". Glenn has a reason and it's to find Maggie and Tara had a mission and changed it to a reason because her mission didn't go out so well. Her reason is to right her wrong. Darryl's new group seemed to be reason based, being that staying together is always better. However, we find out that they are also on a mission and that's to find out who killed their friend. Meanwhile, Rick/Michone/Carl seem to be falling on happier times with their mission to Terminus. Maggie saves Glenn and Tara after uniting with Abraham's group. Once the group is united, they make a group decision and that is to either to go to Washington or to go to Terminus. They decided as a group to go to Terminus and arrive.

This week I would like our group to decide as a team an exercise to do this week. I would like an answer by the end of the day and we will start tomorrow. Otherwise we will continue with 250 mins of cardio, 100 mins of strength and combat will again be optional. We will do our assigned exercise for 5 days this week.

We will most likely be the winner this week! So, I would like SawJan to come up with the punishment exercise for the other teams.

2 weeks left! Let's go kick some butt!

Tyreese and Sasha edged you out of it. There's only 2 of them and they always get 3 each, plus the two points was 4.0. I think you should get a second place reward. You share MVP with Sawjan too. Your team nominated you, they are so awesome, aren't they?:flowerforyou:

    Week 9 March 31-April 4(The finale)

This week includes a lot of danger as Daryl's new group finds Rick. A blood bath takes place out of desperation to save Ricks group because as we can clearly see, they are a family. Rick tells Daryl, "You are my brother". As the group makes their way to Termenous, there is a need for preparedness. As we soon find out, you can never be too prepared.

As we end this challenge, we find out that we too are a bit of a family and I can call you my sisters. We support each other and we care about each other. What will you do once this challenge is over? How are you going to prepare to keep on track with yourself?

This week I would all like you to set some goals outside of this challenge to keep yourself on track.

Cardio will be 250 mins, Strength 100.

It's been awesome to be your captain and team Carol has been so amazing! Not one person dropped out and everyone checked in each week with nearly a perfect score every week. You ladies are rock stars, super women and just down right incredible. You all have inspired me to do my best and I'm happy to call you friends. I hope you join me next season!
