Bulking "problems" ;)

What are yours? Things you don't enjoy?

For me there is SO much to enjoy like new muscley awesomeness, tons of PR's, being so much stronger, eating all the foodz, all that jazz.

But I'm gearing up for a trip and was trying on bikinis tonight. My "spots" are my love handle areas. I had a surgery on my stomache and ever since I went from no muffin top / love handles to that being a spot where I seem to get that look in certain items. It's a bit more pronounced now that I'm bulking and have put on a few pounds and it pissed me off tonight. I mean, I look GOOD and I'm really confident and secure in my body but I wish I didn't have that extra weight and squish there, haha.

So what don't you love about bulking?

Having bulked before there wasn't too much that came as a surprise to me. I of course don't always care for my "bulking belly" but I also dgaf mostly and know its part of the process. I refuse to let it get to me, stop me or hinder my plan. I did have to giggle at a comment made to me about a NYE pic and when asked if I was pregnant; though due to personal reasons, I quickly became insulted on a different level.

The only other annoying thing is that none of my sports bras fit my Lats and traps anymore and my shoulders have made wearing many shirts impossible. To me though, while they're annoyances, they make me happy in a way too.

Sorry, I don't have much. I'm enjoying this.

Only thing I don't enjoy is when I am left with too many cals at the end of the day and feel like I have to shovel food into my mouth...but that's what ice cream and almond butter are for

I was feeling fat around weeks 5-7, but now I feel great. I did buy new pants (in size 2) to accommodate the expanding waistline, but I'm thinking this is my end goal size now anyway, so I'm actually pretty stoked!

This is why I love you ladies. You've got nothing to hate on about bulking! Hahaha. Feeling better tonight. Just hoping the bikini I ordered in one size up for the bottoms arrives in time... *fingers crosed*

Love the comment about shirts not fitting incredible shoulders and back. You are RIPPED in such an amazing way, HMV! I am in awe of your photos all the time.

And Primal - that is awesome. I have moved out of a smaller size of shorts and am pretty stoked too. Means my *kitten* and legs are fitting everything out that much nicer. Score!

my work pants don't fit well.

And my dance costume's are expensive and time consuming to make/adjust. So it's hard to keep a collection of clothing JUST for bulking and JUST for cutting.

And I feel like a porker eating crap all the time- but then I feel warm and fuzzy and not guilty eating cookies and ice cream. :D

My biggest issues is not seeing any gains- that's fu*king pissing me off to no end.

Unfortunately I get the 'are you pregnant?' comment regardless of my weight. I have spindly arms & legs but a very prominent lower belly despite having very strong abs. I am hoping bulking will give me bigger limbs and so balance me out more.

I have only just started weight lifting & trying to bulk, and have not gained anything yet. However my shorts feel tighter across the thighs, which I like, and I think I have something resembling biceps now.

Not having a dishwasher. The amount of dishes/tupperware I dirty in a single day, and have to wash by hand, is ridiculous. #bulkingproblems.

    Also: boobs. :grumble:

The food baby! I want to wear maternity pants! It hurts so much!
If I wasn't carrying around the massive belly full of ice cream (including the pain of stretching my stomach, muscles and skin to the max) I would have a smashing time!

The return of the belly roll...

Clothing wise I have not such a big problem, because I shrunk out of the main part of my wardrobe before. I'm only just growing back into most of the stuff. I am getting tired of huge quantities of quark though... I find it very hard to get enough protein in without it.

how can you get tired of quark??
Just add honey and it's the best thing in the world!!
Or make cheesecake with it (German cheesecake is the best variety here)
Or add some of the instand yoghurt things you usually add to milk, mix and put in the freezer for 5 min for an amazing ice cream (you can also add some extra protein powder and maybe some milk for consistency)

I agree, how can you tire of it?! I grew up in Germany, so eating it all the time. Moved to the US and it's a pain in the @$$ to find and so expensive! I eat a lot of cottage cheese and greek yogurt to get the protein in.

It's kinda like a cross between sour cream (or greek yogurt) and cream cheese (at least that's how the German stuff tastes). It's thick and sour and delicious. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quark_(dairy_product)

I hate that its hard to eat enough on my martial arts days. I can't eat more that 8-900 cals before my workout or I want to retch, and I don't get out of class til 9pm. I usually make it up on weekends. (This is why cardio when bulking is not great, but I'm not willing to give up my badassery)

The looks I get are funny when I am eating AGAIN, or when I have what would normally be two lunches in front of me for one meal.

Many pants that fit my waist are very tight on my quads. Either I can wear them at all, or they tend to pull down my pants enough to show my crack

Many women's (even more true for jrs) fitted shirts don't fit, because my shoulders are too broad and my biceps are too big for the sleeves.

Most of these are good problems to have though.

Oh, and it really sucks to put on a bikini and get the "that's it?" looks since I am not as trim as people expect with my workout schedule.

^^^ This, I have it often for breakfast with some muesli and banana mixed in. But eating over a pound (500g) per day of the stuff gets old fast...

Huh, never heard of it, it's not sold here in Canada...sounds like something I'd probably like a lot though :)

Surprised you cant get Quark in Canada, it is easy enough to get here in the UK. I have not had it for years, might keep an eye out for it. I can't happily eat it without something to sweeten it though. Isn't it a bit 'low fat & healthy' for bulking though?

i've had quark before, its kinda rich for me. its like cream cheese.

So what i dont like about bulking is that i can't workout every day, i hate recovery days because i love working out. i would lift heavy every morning for an hour if i could , so i could get my endorphin rush. I hate recovery days , i get so stir crazy.

Another thing i dont like but its just the cost of doing business, is how tight and unflexible i'm becoming. I do yoga once a week, and i keep getting tighter and tigher and less limber. I also dont like that i can't reach around to scratch my back anymore! i have to do that elephant against a tree trunk scratching thing to get to an itch. I also struggle to take off my sports bras, i can't bend my arms and pull my bra up offfrom around my lats, i have to get my bf to help, which i'm sure he enjoys.

but everything is worth it, i love bulking and getting strong.

I'm loving bulking so far!! I love the strength gains I'm seeing!!! The only complaint I have is that I sometimes I get busy during the day, so I have to REALLY shovel in the food to make my cals in the evening, that hurts my stomach :( The other thing I would say is that I am really sensitive to holding water from carbs and salt, so I'm puffy all of the time. No big deal, but it masks my muscle definition, I can't see my progress at all...so I'm basically blindly trusting that some muscle really is growing under all that fluff haha...fingers crossed that this process is working and I'm not just doing a fulk cycle :)

To the quark: in the uk it's usually kept in the cheese isle which I find very weird cause in Germany it's with the yoghurt and milk...
so it's probably easy to overlook as it comes in a little pot very much like any other cream cheese or mascarpone... And I kind of do see hoe 500 g a day might make it hard to keep it up... It is really low fat but my 250 g pot got 170 cals and 33 g of protein! And if you make it into cheesecake you get all the fat you ever wanted :D

I really do know the problem with illfitting clothes! I naturally got wide hips and the added muscle and pump now makes it really awkward to wear any pants. They are all really tight around the quads/butt (sometimes to the point that my knees hurt when walking up stairs) but are really lose around the waist, as in you put on a belt and have an inch rim of folded up fabric sticking up. Not a good look. I also had to buy s top in a uk 14/16 (I'm normally a 10) the other day so my shoulders and arms would fit in :D it's designed to be wide aroud the waist so it doesn't look to stupid tough.

    And I despise rest days!!

Perhaps, but it is such a cheap and convenient way of getting a high amount of protein in....

Ditto on hating rest days. I get stir crazy. The very idea of no exercise makes me want to bang my head on the table. I confess that my 'rest' days translate as 'still going to gym but not doing heavy lifts' days.

Today I did a brief class first thing before work, intending to come back after work and lift. Instead I got stuck working until nearly 10pm, and can't go to the gym. I feel somehow 'deprived'! Next week I am doing 14hr night shifts, so no chance of getting to gym between shifts.

On the plus side, my new resistance bands have just arrived, and can't wait to try them out at the gym :-)

I sacrifice a lot of sleep often (it's killing me this week)

I normally go to dance class and then work out- or I'm at the studio working- so I can't lift till 8/9 PM- I get home around 11- shower then eat- it's often 1230 by the time I'm in bed. :/ poopy. I don't mind being a little light on some days though- like you I make it up on my days off (My "weekend" rest days are Wednesday- and often Thursday) I work out Saturday and Sunday.
