LS Party Songs And Radio Remixes

Hi Leslie Peeps,
I am just restarting after a six month layoff; most of you know this. Just got LS's two new DVDs for Christmas.
Really need some help as to how to approach this with my CP and all. The tap outs, bounces, and kickbacks
are out of the question right now. I modified the turning sidesteps for now so I just turn and stand-by the time
I get the turn and do sidesteps started, LS is 2 moves ahead of me. The DVDs themselves are a blast; I love
them, especially the HIITs with the GoGos and Lionel Richie!!! Right now my shoulders, arms, buns, thighs,
knees and hips are hurting in a good way. But I know that someday I'll get used to these moves and they'll
be less effective; let's face it. LS is the only series I can do, even though I have Chris Powell and Zumba
Gold. They're both supposed to be for beginners but so far no go. I'm excited to workout at this point, but
fear the discouragement that always comes when the moves get too easy. Any advice/help would be very
much appreciated. Thank you all...
Sue

Sue, I am so glad that you are back and exercising again! I'm so proud of you for starting over again. When you get stronger or need to change things up when other moves become easier just do any move that seems more challenging to you at the moment. Like maybe lift your knee a bit higher or kick a bit stronger. Or do a double kick or lift.
Perhaps for moves that you can't do now you can do modified moves when you are stronger or even now: for instance for tapouts you could move your foot outward or toward the side. Or do heal taps toward front or back instead of a 'tapout'.
I can't do bounces at all. So I just walk in place or forward/backward or any move I feel like while they are bouncing or any kind of jumpy moves.
Maybe for the kickbacks just tap your foot towards the back, or move to the front like a kick. Or substitute another move like a leg lift.
Keep modifying and substituting to keep it fresh and give yourself more moves. Invent a move of your own like drawing circles with your toes on the floor or slightly in the air. Play with it and keep having fun. Anything that will help you not feel discouraged. Also you are getting a collection of DVDs so mix them up during the week.
I have to substitute other moves for moves that I can not do like jumping jacks, bounces, and some others. Don't let not doing a move discourage you. Substitute anything that seems good for that time.
Those turning side steps I substituted regular sidesteps in same place b/c there is no way I can do dance moves like that and even hope to 'keep up'. It is not the 'move' it in the 'moving' that helps us. Keep having fun regardless what they are doing on the screen.
I'm not sure if what I wrote is what you were asking, if not maybe someone else can answer better.
Hugs to you dear friend :flowerforyou:0 -
I have the Radio remix dvd, and it is an advanced walk so there is quite a bit to modify.
Consider marching in place during kickbacks as the idea is to increase your heart rate. I would also think that puting down your heel in front of you rather than doing tap outs would be a way to work on balance. You also might be able to do small tap outs if you were to hold on to the back of a chair for support.
You could also consider using more arm movements to make things more difficult as you progress. Adding light weights can really boost a walk and you can but them down as you start to tire.
I hope this gives you some new ways to make the walks more challenging as you get stronger!

I don't have the Radio Remix or Party Songs DVD, but I have a ton of other LS workouts. One of them has bounces in it, and the first time I got to that part of the workout, I thought, "Seriously?" Way too out of shape and overweight for that! I step side to side or march in place until they are done. I will eventually start doing moves like that, but we have to do what we can handle and work up to the parts that are not not quite good for us yet!
Glad you are back to working out :flowerforyou:0 -

Sue you're doing great and I agree with Mary:). Leslie always encourages us to modify and as long as you keep moving, walking in place you're doing great!!! Keep up the awesome workouts!! You're an inspiration my girl!! Xoxo0 -
Sue,
Modifying is a wonderful way to enjoy your new DVDs. I hope that as you find the moves easier, you don't get bored or discouraged. I'm grateful to be healthy enough to do all the moves and I don't ever feel like they get old or are ineffective. Mix up the DVDs, try different arm movements, use your chair. Work those legs more as you get stronger - today an inch, tomorrow two inches. Always keep trying, as far as your health will allow. Movement is a blessing!!!

Hi all,
I am new to MFP and just discovered Leslie Sansone's walking program a few months ago. I was pretty faithful with walking and then started talking myself into walking fewer and fewer miles. Obviously, I need some friends to motivate me. After all, Leslie is always saying how you can do one mile, right? I quit walking during the holidays. Things just got crazier than usual, and the stress of trying to fit everything in caused me to chose to stop stressing over working out. Anyway, I am trying to get motivated to even start with a mile a day. By the way, Sue, I found that I had to modify any lunge-type moves, since I have had surgery on both knees at some point in life and they are not quite strong enough for that, at least not yet. It looks like this group is pretty large, and I am hoping that means that others have had success using Leslie as a means of working out to help with weight loss. I welcome any success stories from people who have lost weight and are using Leslie's DVDs primarily as their form of exercise. That would be very encouraging!

I love Leslie's dvd's! I have 7 of them and I have primarily used them as my main form of exercise. When I mix them up I do not get bored with them. However, if I feel like one is getting too easy, I will stop using it for a while. I find when I go back to it later it will be challenging again.0

Hi Karen-I found and started using LS walking workouts about a year ago. I started on MFP in August of 2012 and thought that the worst part of losing weight was the freakin exercising. i HATE it!!!! I knew I would never go to a gym (real bad flash backs to high school rope climbs, pommel horses, endless situps with someone holding my feel-you get the idea). I lasted about 5 minutes with Jillian Michaels- although she was all the rage on the forums. However, as the weight started to come off from just controlling my calories alone, I knew I had to do SOMETHING or I was going to be a saggy, flopping, 60-year-old mess!! I was lurking around MFP one day and someone mentioned walking videos that you did at HOME!! EUREKA!!!! YES!!!! I can walk and doing it at home meant I could walk when it fit my varied schedule (I am a college professor and have a different schedule every semester)!! Since Jillian was simply not for me, I tried Leslie and she was so much nicer and super encouraging! I have been walking with Leslie ever since and you can see by my ticker, that she has helped me be more successful than I ever dreamed possible. I do her strength training workouts (Walk it Off in 30 Days gave me back my shoulders that I had not seen since I was 30!) and I do at least 1 5 mile walk every week. The weight keeps falling off. Be encouraged by everyone here because LS WAH Program works! You will feel better, drop pounds and get strong. I log it as aerobics and rarely miss a day! Walk Strong Karen! You will not regret it. Are you feeling encouraged now? Brenda0

I am back as well. I lost about 40 pounds and with Thanksgiving and Christmas I started back eating everything in sight. I really need to get back with the group and start walking again. I have good intentions, but somehow I just don't get around to it. I read this post for a reason today. It is time to get back on track, be honest with myself and others. I would love the help of this group again. I did it before, I can do it again.0

Yes! I am feeling encouraged. I am in my 50s, and there is so much out there about how hard it is to lose the pounds after menopause, that it can also sound discouraging. I am so glad that you posted of your success with Leslie's program. I just started using her DVDs in October, and I was doing pretty good about pushing myself to take time for that 2nd mile. Most of my motivation with exercise is about time, so I am trying to find a way to maybe even start out with trying to do one mile of walking at two separate times of day to start. It might not be quite as good as doing them together, but I am betting it would help my metabolism. I also need to commit to logging every day for at least a week on food. It really should not take that much time, and it will hold me accountable. Thank you so much for your encouraging story!0
