Food bucket list

So, I start my preop diet tomorrow. My last appt. with surgeon was Monday, I knew I had a few days of not having to be quite as "good" as I have been. My daughter (11) asked me what was on my food bucket list :). After some thought, there were really only a few things I wanted to have. Not because I think I'll never be able to have them again but I know some might be a problem with my sleeve for some time (bread, pizza crust) or I know I won't be eating them in the quantity I do now. Any sweet items I have right now I am finding that it is either not as satisfying as I thought it would be or I don't feel so hot after eating because for the past 3 months I have really limited those types of food in preparation for surgery. So, of my small BBQ chicken pizza that I HAD to have, I had 2 pieces last night, 2 today and gave the remaining 2 to my son. It was delicious but I have had my fill. My Italian sub I HAD to have, I only ended up eating half of, really wasn't that great, I've had enough. I rarely drink but had a frozen margarita pouch and because it has been months since I have had any alcohol I was a total lightweight and fell asleep! I guess this is reassuring to me???

  • I also did the "LAST Supper" thing. I had pizza for lunch and Chinese for dinner. The pizza was good and so was the Chinese but after 6 months of diet documentation it wasn't the grand finale that I was expecting. During dinner I thought to myself I won't miss this. Not that I won't be able to have a reasonable healthy amount later, but it was very reassuring that I was ready. I have done plenty of last suppers and none were like that one. The liquid diet wasn't that bad. It does get old fast you just have to remember what you are doing it for and you will get threw it.

Rich, like you, when I did the "last supper" thing I thought the same thing - I won't miss this. I also knew I was really ready, I didn't have to do a liquid diet before, and I thought I might end up going through the food bucket list, but I had been in that bucket SO many times over the years, I was ready to climb out of it. I know that eating the way I used to didn't serve me well, so that can all stay in the past. That said, I really did want to have one last supper at Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles, which I did. It was delicious, but I think I was so ready for the next step in my life, my surgery, that it just wasn't a big deal to me.

Yes, I thought, I'm going to be ok, I'm not going to miss not having this all the time. I've worked hard the last 3 months and my body is used to a healthier diet. Maybe that's why it either wasn't that satisfying or made me a little sick. Bring on the preop diet!

Haha! So, I wasn't the only one to do the "last supper" thing? Wasn't NEAR as satisfying as I thought it would be. I think I ate half then quit - I felt guilty the whole time I was eating it, like I was cheating on myself! Guess that's a good sign!

Good luck on your surgery - tough getting through the liquids, but it goes so fast and will be worth it!!!!

Just remember that those foods weren't that great when you are sick of the protein shakes and your puréed meat doesn't look that appetizing :). Sounds like you are ready. My best advice is to not try to reintroduce your Kryptonite foods into your new lifestyle. Let them go. Weight loss surgery has no effect on your food addictions. You have to choose to let them go.
