Dislocated my shoulder doing action song

I have been informally diagnosed with hyper mobility and have had problems for years. I was a gymnast and very muscular which supported my joints to an extent, until my joints became too painful to continue. I blamed gymnastics for a while.

During the summer I had to get my ulna bone shortened because it had grown too long and was hitting the bones in my hand. I was finally feeling better and had got back in the gym. I was conscientious about doing strength strainig to support my joints. I was even able to do press-ups, kettle bell exercises etc. after having numerous problems with my knees, kneck, wrists, shoulder, ankles, and two premature labours.

So I am finally feeling strong and taking control of my problems until I was singing at a playgroup today. I was singing and doing the actions to 'wind the bobbin up' and Pop! my shoulder went out of joint. I thought I was going to faint but after about 15 minutes in went back in and felt a lot better.

I am now petrified of it happening again. It did once happen when I was doing chin-ups but I thought I had just pushed myself too far.

So, any advice on who to see or what to do? Should I try to get a formal diagnosis? Thanks everyone, I feel a little lost and defeated.

if you get a diagnosis (rheumatologist for me), you can get a prescription for physical therapy at the same time.

learning how to get something back into place is a good skill to have - as strange as it may sound!!

you are doing the right thing by trying to move and esp strength training. always make sure you have proper form. good luck.
