Hi Fellow Minnesotan's! Just wondering if any of you are doing TDEE -% method of eating/plan? I'm in it about 2.5 weeks-lost 1.2lbs-haven't measured yet. Just curious to hear some success stories to keep me motivated-especially with the cold snap we are about to encounter-AGAIN! Happy Monday!

That's the method I use, and it works really well for me. I give myself a range vs. a set number, but it's the same concept.
Most of my workouts are in the evening - I see a trainer 3 evenings a week and I take a Pilates class after work one night a week - so I don't want to wait until the end of the day to find out how many exercise calories I've earned. Also I hate starving on my rest days. Finally, it's a lot easier for me to plan my meals in advance when I'm aiming for the same calorie target every day.
I started January last year. I've gotten increasingly active since then, so my calorie target keeps going up. I started out eating 1300-1500 calories a day, mid-summer I bumped up to 1500-1700 calories a day, and this fall I bumped up to 1600-1800 calories a day. I've only had 4 or 5 weeks in the past year where I haven't lost weight, and not one of those has been a surprise (because I hadn't stuck to my calorie targets those weeks).
Good luck!0 -
Wow! That's terrific.Great to hear!!
I'm still attempting to find that 'sweet' spot everyone talks about. I've increased my activity, used the spreadsheet to figure out my TDEG and such, right now my TDEE is showing on my fitbit - close to 2500and coordinates with the spreadsheet, (I had to adjust my height on it (fitbit) to get a more accurate read).
I LOVE having the one number to go by, but I'm an every day weigher--have been since I was 14 and probably won't stop...and I hate seeing it drop to a low number then jolt up a 1.5 after a really good eating/work out day--I'm learning to be very paitent and trust the process. It seems my weight will drop down one day a week and then goes up and down all week long. Just weird how it works. I'm into week three. By the way things have been going - wondering if my body will be doing the 'woosh' effect everyone talks about. Hoping I'm on the right track.
Thanks for the positive information! It gives me hope!! :-)0 -
I've really just used trial & error to find what works for me. When I start getting really hungry for several days in a row I bump up my calories for a week. If I still lose weight I know I'm good at the higher level. If I maintain, I give it another week. If I gain, then I drop back down again. Sometimes I'm hungry because I need more calories, and sometimes it just turns out I was hungry. A few weeks ago I did run the Scooby calculator and it told me I should be eating in the high end of the range I was using, so it was nice validation. Just prior to that I tried dropping back on calories for a week and got really cranky and tired so I won't be doing that again. I guess in the end I pretty much listen to my body. It lets me know when I'm doing things wrong.0

I have been logging everything so I can figure things out--starting to drive me a bit whacky.
Not sure if you'll be able to answer this or not. There are weeks where we go out to eat and I eat a bit over or AT my TDEE and I don't gain the next day--So the next two days I'll eat at my goal and then wham--I show a 2lb gain--its like it took my body two days to catch up to what I did two days ago....have you had this happen? Or how do you handle days where you eat close or over your TDEE? Do you cut cals the next couple of days?
Oh and the other thing I was giong to ask--what % of a cut are you doing? I've been doing 15%......
such a learning process! :-)0
