Food shopping in Brasil … a new adventure!

So many things are different here from the USA. And that is a good thing, in most cases. But the one thing I do truly miss is the culture of healthy food back in ol' New England. I was a CSA member for years, and bought most of my additional foods at the local co-op or from the organic & natural foods section at my local grocer. Funny how something like this really didn't even cross my mind when considering leaving the 'States for a new life in the NEW Land of Opportunity; beautiful Brasil. But, it certainly has been an eye-opener. I am *slowly* finding better and better options … but it is a real challenge and the cost of organic produce is quite high. Also, as a result of the dearth of acceptable protein options, I have been eating more tuna, sardines and TVP. Hardly any beef (I have had three burgers in the past year, and those were at restaurants), and about 1 naturally raised chicken a month.
One upside to all this? I have been wearing shorts, tees, and flip-flops non-stop since last year.
For the win!
