Since no one else has started a topic I will. Sherry and I have been making our weekly meal plans from recipes from Cooling Light. Cooking Light has many good recipe books and a monthly publication. The magazine is available in either paper of digital forms. We have found that planning our meals out for the week and cooking most up ahead of time on the weekend allows for more workout time. Sherry does most of the cooking. ;)

What are you doing differently than you were??

  • Thanks for starting a topic Robin. My fiance and I have been making our weekly meal plans from a combination of Clean Eating Magazine and Eating Well Magazine. (Cooking Light... I need to get that!) Clean Eating recipes taste amazing but more intermediate in the ingredients ($$$) and cooking techniques. Unfortunately, my fiance does most of the cooking since I go from work straight to LHFC. I do the dishes, and split leftovers into lunch containers.

I would be happy to share any of my favorite recipes or foods with anyone.

One major change that I made was modifying my "cheat" day/s. A while back, cheat day was once a week but later became the whole weekend. It often included things like pizza, wings, cheese & crackers, wine + 3-4x the portions I should be eating. I'm now making sure my recipes include my favorite cheat day ingredients in moderation. Homemade "cheat" food is always 10x healthier than take-out.

With that said, I know it's tough to make/cook every meal you eat, but my advice to everyone is to try to!!!
(If time is an issue, I'll get Subway 6inch or a Chipotle Salad Bowl with NO rice, sour cream, or cheese. Any other healthier-ish options?)

I always thought the soup and salad combo at Olive Garden would be healthy but all are loaded with salt. It's hard to find anyplace that has a truely lower salt content.

Sherry found some good recipes from Cooking light that I will try to remember to make copies of for Thursday's workout.
