Are my parents right??

same thing is happening to me. I am currently 11 weeks pregnant and I've gained 8-9 pounds! I have my parents telling me I "look like I'm gaining tons of weight" and "should watch what I am eating" and stop "shoveling things in my face".. but I'm not really eating differently, just cutting out the bad stuff in my diet, and instead of eating big meals 1-2 times a day, eating a LITTLE at a time but 4-5 times a day. Am I doing something wrong? Are they right? It's really getting to me.

Talk to your doctor about it at your next appointment. I was concerned about weight gain but every time I brought it up to my doctor, she said not to worry and I ended up below my pre-pregnancy weight by 10 days after delivery.

We I was pregnant I gained 20lb by 20 weeks and was panicking! But by the end my total gain was about 30/32lb. I know everyone is different but I wouldn't worry too much.

Think in the UK its more laid back about weight as you only get weighed at your first appointment and that's it! (mind you maybe get weighed more if you are under or over weight at the first appointment but I'm not sure).

I'd gained about 9lbs by my 11 week booking appointment, but I don't see how it can have been fat as I was still working out and I was eating under maintenance calories. I was really nauseous and I had a craving for fruit, and it made me really bloated. I'm 28 weeks now and I haven't actually weighed myself (I'm in England so we don't get weighed at appointments) but I don't think I'm doing too badly.

I think it's normal to gain weight at first - the extra fluid, your uterus getting bigger, eating slightly differently to combat nausea etc.

Every person is different and there are many factors that can contribute to your weight gain. Just make sure to eat a healthy, well-balanced diet and continue to exercise. There is nothing cuter than a lady with a baby bump at the gym =)

If you want to know whether you're eating too much, log it and see. But don't engage your parents about it - keep that conversation between you and your doctor. Everyone gains weight differently, and some people gain a ton of water weight, which is going to suck when you weigh yourself, but is a heck of a lot different than eating too many calories and accumulating fat.

^^^ I think maybe that's what happened to me because I lost 20 lbs by the time I came home from the hospital (of course that includes baby, placenta, etc). And have lost 9 more lbs. in the last week and a half. And I haven't been doing anything special. No working out yet. I didn't feel like I was retaining a lot of water but I guess I was.

It's just the beginning of having everything you do put under a microscope by others!! My pregnancy consisted of my mom saying I wasn't eating enough/gaining enough and I was too active. It was annoying as could be. I was under the care of an OB and a nutritionist, and was within their recommendations the whole time. My husband and I didn't even tell most people we were pregnant until I was 33 weeks and clearly showing, in part so I didn't have to "be judged" by everyone for continuing to live my life in a normal way. (I was mowing the lawn, kayaking, having late nights, etc...nothing crazy. But to some it was "too much".)

As long as you're healthy, you feel good, and you remain somewhat active you're fine! I ended up gaining 23 lbs and it was gone in less than 2 weeks. I've had friends gain 60+ lbs and they too lost the weight. We're all different and gain/lose in our own way. Tell them (once you are) that you're under the care of a physician and to lay off!

Yeah and then once you have the baby, people still feel the need to tell you what to do!
