Anybody use Mirena?

I am looking for a non-pill type of contraception to use for a while before my husband gets a vasectomy or I get a tubal ligation. Does anyone have experience with the Mirena IUD, good, bad or ugly? I would love to hear it!

I've had it for a year with no issues. Insertion was a bit painful, but I hadn't healed yet from my tear from childbirth. They inserted mine at 8 weeks pp so my cervix was still not completely closed. I've only had one period so far (I'm still nursing) and it was light with minimal discomfort. Overall, I've been happy with mirena.

I'm going on about a year and a half on the Mirena and I'm happy with it. No weight gain, no "real" periods (barely spotting once every couple months)... only thing I've noticed is a bit of acne... but not 100% sure if the Mirena is the cause. I'd reccomend it.

Thanks ladies, I appreciate your input! I think I've decided that if I need a C Section due to placenta previa I'll just have them do the tubal ligation then, but if I have another vaginal birth which I'm hoping for I'm going to get the Mirena at my 6 week post partum visit. I've heard both good and bad things but these decisions aren't the easiest!

I had it after my first son and didn't like it.. I felt it all the time and developed anxiety around the time I got it in (maybe coincidence, I don't know). But a lot of people really like it.. so who knows!
  • Yes and I love it! I got it about 12 weeks post partum and it was mildly uncomfortable at the worst. I used to have very heavy cycles with excessive cramping - now they barely last 2 days, and there is no cramping at all. I've had it for about 6 months now, and I highly recommend it.
