Good evening strong friends!
Got to the gym. Wheee. There's going to be an ice storm tomorrow. I guess the weather is really against a MWF workout schedule this week.
I did some c25k at lunch. Then after work I hit the gym and started my second cycle of madcow. Madcow is pretty similar to stronglifts in that it's not specifically 12 weeks, but that's sort of how it worked out for me last time. Then I had 2 meets and some bulgarian squat programming in between, so I reset it and I'm starting over with my new 1rm put into the spreadsheet. Thus it's pretty light, but since I've been cutting it still felt really heavy.  Even bench which I reset a LOT due to my rhomboid. Ugh.
Anywho
Squats 45x5, 95x5, 115x5, 145x5, 175x5, 205x5, 235x5
Bench 50x5, 65 2x5, 75 2x5, 95 2x5,110 2x5, There were 6 sets of 5 pullups using 90# of bw sprinkled throughout those sets
Rows 45x5, 65 2x5, 75x5, 95x5
Dips 120# of bw 3x5
Reverse Hypers 3x12
I'm so tired and sweaty and tired. Maybe hungry? Not sure as the tired is taking over most of my thoughts.0 -
Good day at the gym today! Workout A:
Squats 5x5 @ 70lbs form feels good, getting parallel or below every rep and I definitely feel it in all the right places!
BP 4,4,3,4,3 @ 60 finally feeling like I can break the 60 lb plateau! Thank you, fractional plates! And my DH for encouraging and pushing me!
Rows 4x5, 1x4 @ 60 lbs should've been 5x5, but I broke form on my last rep, so I'm not counting it. Will probably stay at 60 next WO0 -
I haven't checked in with my workouts for a while. They've been spotty because I haven't had any focus. I still don't have focus, but I'm now doing a 16 week, 4 day split routine that starts as lighter weight/higher volume. Since I'm only on day 2, I still love it.
Yesterday was accessory lifts: OHP, pause bench, rows, and some assistance. Today was deadlifts.
Deadlifts 8x3 @ 155lbs
Block deadlifts 5x5 @ 135lbs
High bar squat 4x6 @ 75lbs
plus 3x10 glute bridges, lunges, and dumbbell rows.0 -
Tonight's workout was 25 minutes on the Spin bike & Abs. I haven't done cardio in about 3 weeks so I took it pretty easy, plus I still have pretty bad DOMS from Sunday's Leg workout (which is better, as always, after doing some cardio).
Abs:
GHD Sit Ups 4x12 - Got a GHD for my birthday (Woo-Hoo)! The thing scares me as I feel like I'm going to fall off on my head! Haven't gotten the courage yet to do them with full ROM.
Captain's Chair Leg Raises (knees to chest) - 2x12, 2x10
Barbell Floor Wipers @ 40lbs 3x60 seconds
Hitting the hay in a bit - have a wonderful night ladies0 -
Obese wondering what exercise "hitting the hay" was. Durr!0
-
Obese wondering?!
Morning! Workout A this morning, had to do underhand rows because I got a weird pain in my left forearm and elbow. Not very nice! I thought that 35lb squat was impossible but I actually managed it yay
I doooo have a slight problem. Im using small bar and weights and I have only 8x5lb weights and 10x 2.5lb weights. Technically I can keep going until the bar is full but it'll be full by week 4. Is it worth building up reps with that weight and putting in a few body weight type things to keep progression, even though the weights themselves are stationary amount?0 -
stupid auto correct.
"Oh I was" obviously ran together. *sigh*0 -
aha, that makes sense! I did look at the keyboard to try and work it out I was picturing a big brain dreaming of hitting the hay0

Hitting the hay is a way to say going to bed. Probably comes from farmers taking naps in the hay stacks.0 -

So I had to look this up because I thought it referenced back when mattresses were stuffed with hay -- which is correct....
Here's a snip from the definition:
In 1902, mattresses were often sacks stuffed with straw or hay (hence the similar phrase 'hit the sack'). The phrase 'hit the hay' seems to have originated in the US sports scene. The Oakland Tribune, July 1903, reported this: "'Sam' Berger, the Olympic heavyweight ... was sleepy and he announced that 'he was going to hit the hay.'"0 -

LOL @ the attention my hitting the hay comment is getting. I thought it was a pretty common and well known phrase?! :ohwell:0 -
wolfsbayne- congrats on the sexy time X 3
Thanks  It's a rarity!0 -

I did say "probably" But, yeah, the mattresses being filled with hay makes more sense.0 -

I think it's more the context in which we all read it. Even I, while I use the phrase a good bit, had to take a second and think about it. Jumping from a workout descrition to "hitting" just kinda made it sound like it was part of it, like some funny exercise ha!
I have to say, it's been my favorite workout the past couple days xP0 -
Got a good workout in this morning:
Squats: 5x5 130 lbs. 10lbs away from my former PR before I deloaded a dew weeks ago.
Bench 3,4,2,3,2 85lbs meh, I'll get it next time.
Rows 2,5,5,5,5 105lbs Surprisingly really easy. Only got 2 in that first set cause I got a call from my son's school that I couldn't ignore. I'll stay at same weight next time.0 -
yes, I do know the phrase, I just read it as the next exercise
brain wasn't quite in gear first thing
and yeah way to humble brag about the sexy time whoever that was!0 -
Yesterday's workout was deadlifts, on my 3 week in 5/3/1
Warmup Sets:
5 x 75 pounds
5 x 90 pounds
3 x 110 pounds
Working Sets:
3 x 130 pounds
3 x 150 pounds
3 x 165 pounds- I got 6! Upping my intensity and working on my hip drive really helped!
Assistance Work:
Good Mornings: 3 sets of 12 x 55 pounds
Hanging Leg Raise-3 sets of 12. Someone was using the captains chair so I did 3 one minute planks instead.
Yep, still love deadlifts!0 -

lol that was me and I still haven't got an answer as to whether or not that helped with my squats that seemed easy...0 -
maybe the endorphins?0
-
maybe...I thought perhaps it was a boost in testosterone. Either way, I'll take it.0

what? absorbed via the semen? lol..0 -
lol, no, I read somewhere that having sex boosts the levels a little. Perhaps that was wrong, I don't know....0

Workout B today...unfortunately, my warm ups for squats weren't as much fun as wolfsbayne's
Squats:
Warm up: 2x5 45lbs.
Work: 5x5 90lbs. I get to use the big girl plates next time! I am thinking of doing a form video then.
OHP:
Warm up: 2x5 45lbs.
Work: 5x5 60lbs....well...I was supposed to move up to 65 this time, but I psyched myself out and stayed at 60 which was so much easier this time!
Deadlift: 1x5 155lbs. I love doing these...I am thinking of adding some warm up ones so I can do more :happy:0 -
Workout today:
Squat: 140 lbs 5x5 although not as easy without the sexy time
Bench: 90 lbs stalled, but did better than last time 5-5-5-4-4 and I worked for that 4th one on the last set
Row: 100 lbs stalled, 5-5-5-5-4
For the first time since starting Stronglifts, my body is hurting right after my workout. My arms hurt, my legs hurt and my obliques are hurting a little. I guess that means that I pushed it pretty hard today0 -
Wolfsbayne I've tried to find credible research one way or the other and I can't (a lot of broscience says it'll drop your T levels.) Maybe it just really opens up your hips.0

Aww...thanks for researching. Maybe it really is endorphins and opening up my hips. I think maybe it came from Rhonda Rousey saying she has lots of sex the night before a fight because it tends to help her. Who knows? :ohwell:0 -
Ha! Yes. I actually researched it quite a while ago when I read that same RR quote.0
