I just got the jawbone UP24 this week, so I am no expert. But I googled some info since the UP did not recognize my indoor spin class. I found out a lot of people put the jawbone on their ankle or secure to their shoe when doing cardio on elliptical, treadmill or indoor bikes. this seems to work much better for me the 4 times I have done this subsequently.

UP tracks step-based activity like walking & running. Log non-step exercise like swimming or spinning either in UP or in MFP. If you log in MFP you'll be asked for start & end times so MFP can override your step data during your workout.

How to log in UP: touch the orange activity tab at the top of the home screen. Touch the runner w/ a plus sign at the top right. Choose the activity type (there are 18 activities on 2 pages). Choose an effort level, start time & duration. Touch the check mark at the top right.
