SL + Bodyweight?

The 1st question is really for my husband. He works out of town two weeks on then has 2 weeks off. We both just started lifting with SL. He doesn't have access to a gym during his work weeks. Do you think he can supplement with bodyweight workouts? How would he figure his progression with SL?
2nd question. How many of you double up workouts on lifting days? Is it a big no no if they are hours appart? Mondays should be a lifting day for me but im trying to become a fitness instructor. The class I'll be a sub-instructor in this coming spring is on Monday nights. I want the regulars to know me before I start teaching regularly so i take the class every Monday. Its a bootcamp class.
I also work in my gyms daycare Monday mornings. I could lift at 9am after my daycare shift and the come back for bootcamp at 4:30pm.... sound reasonable? Up til now i have been doing my favorite kickboxing class after my daycare shift but my i think that's going to have to stop. Im such a gym ratt. i have too many classes i love!! If i took everything i loved i'd never lave the gym!

If it's just one day a week and you're not doing heavy lifting twice, I think it would be manageable. I've done it a few times (lift heavy in the AM, do something with bodyweight and higher cardio involvement in the afternoon). I wouldn't recommend doing it every day, but if it doesn't wear you out too much, try it out!
As for your husband, He might want to look into this program that's called You Are Your Own Gym (YAYOG). It's got progressions for all levels and some of this stuff is really challenging so he probably could do that for 2 weeks, then SL for 2 weeks, and just alternate between the 2. Obviously his lifts won't progress as fast as someone that would be doing ONLY heavy lifting, but he shouldn't lost any strength during the 2 weeks he's away. So progressing every workout might very well still be possible.
That's my take on it, anyway. Can't really know if it'll work until you try it! Be safe and patient about it and it should all be fine!0 -
Thank you for your input!
Thats was along the lines of what I was thinking im just not sure what weight to he should be doning when he gets home... i suppose just work the to programs independent of one another. So he'll leave on Tuesday having completed week one of SL. At work start week one of YAYOG. Come home in 2 weeks & pick up SL again at week 2... and so on. Sound about right?0 -
Yup, that's pretty much what I would try! If it gets too difficult, he most likely still be making progress increasing the weights every other workout instead of every workout. Or going up by smaller increments. Either way, staying active always works!0
