Tip of the day-GET ADDICTED!

Have you noticed that you may have the WORST. DAY. EVER and then you exercise and it doesn't seem so bad?
Did you know that when you exercise your body releases a chemical called endorphins? Endorphins also block the transmission of pain signals to your brain and also produce a euphoric feeling -- exactly like opiates. The neuron receptors endorphins bind to are the same ones that bind some pain medicines. However, unlike with morphine, the activation of these receptors by the body's endorphins does not lead to addiction or dependence.
Overall, the release of the endorphins from exercise can leave you with a happy and euphoric feeling.
If I miss a workout I am cranky-this is because I don't have that release of endorphins and I have missed an opportunity to be one day closer to my goal.
So if you are feeling down, even though you don't feel like it, try to get a workout in. Your mood will be better and BONUS you get your workout in!
Happy Thursday ladies!

Hi Charma. First of all, thank you for the wonderful tips. I've just started ZUMBA. I have the ZUMBA Incredible Results program and would like to know what is the best way to determine the calories burned. I have a FitBit ZIP and MFP has a ZUMBA Fitness exercise log that I've used, but I don't know which is best.

    What do you recommend?
    Thanks so much.
  • You are welcome for the tips!!! Honestly, from what I have found the best way to determine calories burned is with a heart rate monitor. They make them now so that you don't have to wear the chest strap-it's just a watch. You set it to your own height, weight, age ect. and it calculates it for you. Now I know some people are skeptical about their accuracy however, I took mine in to my dr. When I was there for routine check up and she did verify that it was monitoring my heart rate accurately. She said since it was calculating my heart rate accurately it should calculate my calorie burn accurately (within a few). Since you put your info in, it's tailored to your body. I have a new balance watch but also have my pedomitor connected through my nikes-it's like a chip into shoes-which also calculates my calories, miles run, speed and tracks how many workouts I am getting- between my watch an the shoes I have only seen about a 5-10 calorie variance. Sorry-I know that was long but I always suggest a heart rate monitor watch that you can enter your own body info into. Keep in mind, you normally have to wear it for a couple of days so it can calibrate correctly before it gives you accurate results. Hope that helps! Let me know if you need anything else!!!
