Snow Day!

What are YOU doing today on this snowy day to keep active?

Catch up on those house hold chores! Vacuum, do laundry, play Wii with the kids! Anything to help you keep moving is great when you're snowed in.
Shoveling is GREAT exercise. Bend with those knees and keep a strong core.
Don't act your age on snow days! Get moving outside: go sledding with the kids, or maybe a snowshoe walk with the dog. Getting outside and exercising during the winter can be hard, but it makes winter that much more tolerable!

How do we fight food temptations while locked in the house!?

The answer is to keep yourself busy and out of the kitchen! If you are working from home, sip on some hot tea to keep snack cravings at bay. If you're doing house hold chores, not only are you being active, you're also keeping yourself busy.

Make a hot, healthy soup for dinner. Instead of watching re-runs on TV, cook something warm and tasty! Healthy cooking wonderful way to spend the day.

Heres a great HEALTHY YUMMY soup recipe!

Tortilla Soup

4 cups chicken broth
4 cups Water
1 1/2 lbs boneless/ skinless chicken breast
6 cloves of garlic
2 chili peppers, thinly sliced
1 tsp. salt
2 cups corn
2 cups cherry tomatoes, chopped
1 avocado, cubed
2 limes (1 lime for juice, 1 lime for wedges)
1/4 red onion, diced
1 cup cilantro leaves
2 oz. whole grain tortilla chips

In a large pot over high heat, bring the broth and the water to a boil. Reduce the heat to very low. Gently simmer the chicken until it is fully cooked. Remove the chicken from the liquid and set it aside. Stir in the garlic, chilies, salt, and corn into the broth.
Gently toss together the tomatoes, avocado, and the juice of one lime. Once the chicken has cooled, shred the meat and add it to the broth. Stir in the cilantro.
Garnish the soup with the avocado mixture and a few chips and enjoy!
