Vacation dilemma

I'm 13 weeks out from my "A" race marathon. Training is going very well and I'm happy with my progress. However, I'm going for a week vacation (leaving on Tuesday evening) with my daughter, and I'm beginning to stress a bit about how to fit in my runs.

There's a Kids Club on the resort, so I'm hoping I'll be comfortable enough to leave my daughter there so I can get my runs in. Worst case scenario, if I'm uncomfortable with the kids Club idea, I will bring my daughter to the gym and can get my tempo and steady runs in. I guess I'm hoping for some reassurance that it's not the end of the world if I don't get a long run in for one week.

or

I could fit my long run in this way: I'll do this week's long run on Monday evening and the following long run on the Wednesday when I get back home (so nine days apart instead of 7). Does this seem like a reasonable plan? If I do this, maybe it should be more of a medium run on the Wednesday and then go back to my regular long runs on the following Sunday?

What would you do?

So, I have been in this situation before. I don't know where you are going but if it is a reputable hotel and Kids Club - then you can have confidence to leave here there and go for your long run. You would bring a cell phone with you and have it in a place you can hear it or feel it vibrate should they need to reach you.

If you are unsure of the Club, I think an extra two days between your long runs will not hurt you at all. In fact your body may appreciate it. Sounds like you will stay active in between in any regard...yoga is good!!!

I recently had to do a mini-version of this with travel to Ottawa and delayed my long run two days, and didn't miss a beat!

    Have a great vacation!

Doing your long runs 9 days apart is not going to affect your fitness. In fact, 9 days might be a better training cycle than 7 days; people just use 7 days because the weekend is usually the most convenient time to do long runs. It might be a bit harder on the other end -- doing another long run 5 days later. If you want to return to the previous schedule you would probably be better off with two 6-day cycles.
