Just some questions...

I have hashimoto's, and from what I see, it's common for autoimmune diseases to come in pairs or more. So I've had this for at least 5 or so years, but for the past couple of years, after my daughters were born, I have been having HEAVY periods, so bad, I won't go into detail, lots and lots of cramping. Also, I had a bout of cysts.
I tried to get pregnant with my son for about 2 years and finally once cysts ruptured I was able. He's 6 months this week. Since my period came back it's been even worse. I feel like I'm dying right now as I type this. I feel like I did when the cysts let go and I'm afraid I have them again.
I admit haven't read up much about pcos, but I was wondering if anyone has hashi and pcos? How did you first know you had pcos?
I don't have insurance at the moment, I hope to soon and I plan to ask my doctor about all of this as soon as I'm able, but figured I'd reach out here first.

I was actually just reading this page and I know that my aunt and cousin have PCOS too. They are both severely overweight and have been as long as I can remember and both struggled getting pregnant. My period has been all over the place as well for a couple years now, minus the pregnancy with my son. Is this something I should ask my doctor about?0

I don't have Hashi's but ive had pcos since I was 16 but never knew much about it till recently. It was just something I had, had cysts every month till I got pregnant and never had another one. Many women don't have cysts at all, so that's not a definite yes you have pcos.
PCOS is a whole body issue. You have too much estrogen, progesterone and androgen in your body, all at the same time. So the side effects of pcos have a lot to do with what those hormones do to you. Some signs are tummy weight/bloating, cysts, hair loss on the head but growing hair elsewhere like arms, mustache, side burns, etc, inability to get pregnant, large amount of follicles on your ovaries, not having regular or any periods, things like that. But a few things doctors can test for, hormone levels, insulin resistance and things like that might help narrow it down to a more definitive yes or no.
with periods as bad as yours, I would definitely ask your doctor. Birth control pills aren't usually the best for pcos because it adds hormones where you are already producing an excess of hormones. but there are other things they can do to control pcos and heavy periods. I also have very heavy periods and when asking the doctor, she told me to give it some time with my new low carb lifestyle and metformin, all treatments for my pcos, as that often will help the periods calm down on their own. IF it doesn't then we can do some other things like a uterine abolation if its so bad I cant handle it anymore. So I would talk to your doctor about all of it and see where it leads. Changing your diet like you have PCOS even if you don't wont hurt you and might help.0 -
Thank you, that was helpful.
I've noticed my hair falling out badly lately, but I'm pretty sure that was from being without my thyroid meds for a while. I definitely need to at least ask my doctor about the heavy periods though. I can't handle it anymore. I had an ectopic pregnancy before getting pregnant with my first daughter and it was the worst pain ever, these periods since my son was born have been right on par with that pain. I just can't handle it. Especially not knowing when it's coming. It's all over the place. This month it came 8 days early. Last month I was almost a whole week late.0 -
Probably a stupid question but, how do you know if you have cysts and/or if they have ruptured?
Sorry, I know I can easily google it, but I'm at work and would rather not do that from here. Thank you!!0 -

I don't know how everyone else is but mine were always the most painful thing ive ever experience since child birth, and I've had second degree burns before. Like a hot knife in your side near where your appendix would be, cant hardly move and I was so sick id be laying on the bathroom floor throwing up from the pain and even that hurt. Then it would instantly stop hurting, like someone turned off a light switch. They found out I had those when they saw them on ultrasound and then the extra fluid around the ovary right after they burst.
Im not sure if it affects everyone the same but me and my daughter both have the same symptoms and pain.0 -
if you cant afford to go to doc or get meds for your thyroid i would advise you start taking kelp...........u can die from not taking your thyroid meds your thyroid affects every cell in your body.......also i would look into adding a zinc supplement there is a link with that and thyroid disorders and hair loss0

another suggestion is to get on low does hormone birth control.....this is usually available through planed parent hood for free. birth control has been shown to reduce cramping.......added bonus the free clinic may also due a free pap and pelvic to rule out other isues and in some cases a us as well which would let you know if there r cysts or an issue of a ruptured ovary0
