What does your cutting routine look like?

Hey chicks! I am on my last official week of bulking which coincides with my last week of running the Madcow program. I know a few of you are wrapping up your bulks in the next few weeks as well so I thought I'd throw this out there…

What will your cutting routine look like? Are you sticking to the same lifting routine you have and throwing in some cardio? Switching up to a new routine?

I am still debating running one more 12 week round of Madcow and throwing in HIIT 3-4x a week or moving on to 5/3/1 & HIIT.

What about you?

There's no reason to change lifting routines unless it's a preference. I'm on my last week and up to 3100-3200 cals and next week I will taper down to around 2800 cals and add 1 or 2 sessions of 10-20 mins sprints or conditioning days such as barbell complexes. I will hold out there for about 2 weeks to see how I feel and slowly cut cals; maybe 50-100 every 2 wks or so. I won't go below a 10% cut off my TDEE as I really don't have much to cut. After about 4 weeks I will add in another 10-20 mins of sprints or stairs if the weather is nice. No steady state for me as I mostly do sprints, hill sprints or bleacher runs.

I have a similar plan as holly.
This is my last week at a surplus and I've averaged 2900 cals these last few weeks.
Next week, I plan on eating at 2600 - 2700 and adding in barbell complexes 2-3x week. I may do treadmill HIIT...not sure yet. I'll stick to that amount for 2 weeks and then probably drop 100 cals a week as I need to. I think the part I'm going to struggle with the most is my powerlifts being affected by my lack of food.

My lifting routine will stay the same as I really like it.

lifting stays the same- I re-calc maintenance and go to there for 2-4 weeks (the first time I jumped up from a cut I ate excessively for almost 10 days on and off) I was grateful I opted for a month.

I say maintenance- but it's going to be an up down kind of taper deal- so- average maintenance.

I might start throwing in some cardio- once a week- depends on how quickly I can reverse the cycle. I like sprints- but with all the snow we have had- it's no bueno. Also we have a sled- cant' use it inside- have to use it outside- and I'm not sure I can yet. really would like to add that in.

I'm not looking forward to this- well I am. I'm looking forward to the cut and the results- not so much the being hungry all the time LOL.

I had never heard of the term "barbell complexes". Had to google away for a bit! Learn something new every day. :)

ETA- Is this the same as "super sets"?

    No.

Supersets involve 2 exercises done back to back for one set; such as back squats then walking lunges etc. Rest, repeat. Supersets and dropsets are part of a normal lifting routine.

The Bear Babell Complex is one giant round of 5 barbell moves togethor. I know it sounds similar to a superset but it's pretty much a conditioning routine on its own.

Thanks for clearing that up! I spent a good two hours last night reading up on it. I am just wrapping up my first year of weight training so I'm still in the dark about many things. Very interesting!

yeah- this winds up being a sweaty day- lifting doesn't usually make me crazy sweaty- but this does. Lunges makes me sweat like a mother trucker for some reason- so all this together- sweat- everywhere. it's insane. But oh man it's so sweet to be done!

I will be switching from my current upper/lower split to a 3x/week full body program. Mostly because lifting 4 times per week is grinding me down, but also because this will give me an extra day to get some cardio in. I plan to start running again on my non-lifting days.

This is the exact complex I plan on using. Although, I'm trying to decide when to do it. I'm continuing my current program so I want to keep my 3 rest days as true rest days (other than walking the pups). So…I'm thinking I'll add it after chest/bicep day and after shoulder/tricep day. I'm assuming I'll have to go pretty light after those workouts…not sure yet.

ETA: maybe that's a bad idea. My chest day is the day right before squat day and my shoulder day is the day right before deadlift day. I'm wondering if the Bear complex will exhaust my legs too much on the day before my lifts for my legs.

My bulk just ended and I'm taking a week off from lifting and then starting a new routine. I'm moving from a 4-day bro split to a 3-day A/B compound lift workout just because I'm burnt out and stopped making progress in my lifts. I'll also start running again and decrease calories slightly.

This is what I'm doing. Took last week off logging and lifting. Back at it yesterday to maintenance for a few weeks. There will be no running for me though......step and kick boxing

you're legs aren't just tired- EVERYTHING is tired. LOL. Yes it's definitely leg focused- but bear complex is just SUCK everywhere- I tend to do them on their own- it doesn't take many- usually I do 3 sets of 10 reps super set with lunges and I'm good- takes maybe 20 minutes and I"m dripping and exhausted. I want to say I've done them on other workouts days- but I tend to make them THE work out for the day and move on to something else- I like the fact I have go to workouts that are significantly shorter but still full workouts on days when I just don't have time to do a main heavy lift and then all the accessory lifts!
