You really need to follow your surgeon's guidelines regarding soda. Simple answer- can you? Yes, you make your own choices. Possible consequences include increased gassiness, and taking up valuable stomach real estate that would be better used by protein or complex carbs. Should you? Only you can answer that after you have all the information. IF it would be a trigger to some old habits, then I would say it wasn't worth it.

I have the occasional beer (Guiness seems to work best) and have had Mojito's with a splash of soda but otherwise I really avoid carbonated drinks as they make me feel bloated. Besides that I m always on the lookout for foods and drinks that could trigger old eating habits that I need to avoid. For that reason - soda has been totally out and will most likely remain out for good.

This. If soda's are a trigger for you don't go back. I occasionally have a Sparkling zero cal pink grapefruit water but I shake all the fizz out. But sodas aren't a problem for me , I am so aware that the carbonic and phosphoric acid in them are wrecking my teeth that I can't drink more than 1 or 2 a month. I completely credit my success with dropping all my Kryptonite foods. I no longer eat wheat, rice or potato- I just can't handle my addiction foods. My friend in support group still eats chips, just a small bag. I know that I can't do that, I can't even handle saltines.
