knee tightness

Ok, so I'm trying to add in a little jogging to my workout and any time that I've laid off the jogging and tried to start again, my knees get tight (runner's knee). I'm having that issue now and I'm wondering if I should lay off the squats for a few sessions until it heals up. Or, is there anything I can do to loosen them up before I squat? This is what I'd prefer, but I don't want to injure myself further.

Thoughts, suggestions, comments?

Isn't runner's knee just from over use? that's what I've understood. Are you trying to go too far and too fast after taking time off?

I'm not really sure...maybe. I start out by walking 4 laps and then I'll run 4. After that, I drop to walking 2 and then jogging 2, than alternate like that a few more times. I feel fine while I'm jogging, but the next day, my knees are tight.
