I don't expect much being a Michael Bay film. I'm not too familiar with Transformers lore to know how badly he butchered their look. As long as there tons of robot action, I'm ok with it.

    I love Transformers.

Reality check though, it is a movie, based on a cartoon that was based on a toy. Beyond things blowing up and and robots there is not much else I need in the movie.

It's the 30th anniversary this year as well so there is plenty of other stuff going on this year

That said, they've already got Grimlock wrong, they killed Jazz, Bumblebee is still alive and Michael Bay, just Michael Bay

Saw it yesterday. I'll try to be spoiler free as possible. It was your typical Michael Bay movie. Explosions, young, attractive woman, robot on robot action, humor, little humans running around nearly getting trampled, tons of CGI and special effects followed by more explosions. I am a bit fuzzy of the Dinobots names from the cartoon but they were never called by their actual names. I think they called them "The Ancient ones?" in the movie. For those with little ones concerned with lanugage, I think they dropped more F and S bombs in this movie than in all 3 previous movies combined.

Plot was meh. Mark Wahlberg was ok, I liked him a bit better than Shia LeBeouf's character. I don't remember the name of Mark''s character from the movie but the general look of his character reminded me a little of Nathan Drake from the videogame series Uncharted. Until he opened his mouth. XD I remember reading a while back he was interested in Uncharted if they ever made the movie. I think he has the physical look, maybe slim down the arms just a tad, but the voice, no.

Quite a bit of obvious product placement through out the movie. For me the highlight was when some random guy gets up in Mark's face complaining to him about the damage to his car and hoping he had insurance.

Like Grimlock would ever let anyone ride him - Wheelie aside in the original movie and even if that was the case by sheer perspective alone that would make Optimus completely the wrong size.

I was actually impressed they had Optimus as a flat nose truck without go faster flames and then BOOM - Michael Bay happened.

the thing is i'm so thirsty for fresh transformers content i actually enjoyed it. there was a lot of bittersweet to it. i hated what they did with drift, but i'm also glad to see an idw character crossing over into broader territory. i loved galvatron and was so excited to hear frank welker was coming on to do his voice (since hey, we already used up leonard nimoy), but he only got what? five minutes of screentime? the dinobots had hardly any characterization and were just Cool bots to ride into battle and breathe fire (and thus grimlock became the new bumblebee, the one hording the most space on the toy aisle shelves). but i actually managed to like the human characters much more in this one, there were a few great moments and i honestly can't wait for the next (where i can rub my hands together gleefully as i wait for my quintesson theory to be proven right).

I felt the same way about having the old school design and wish they kept it. As far as galvatron. ..yeah sorry they totally ****ed him up too. I mean he wasn't a super bad *kitten* laser gun like he was supposed to be. Like I said great action but the story made hardly no sense .

As long as Shia Labeouf isn't in it, I'm happy!

I agree about shia. I mean i liked him in the first movie actually but the next two i was like "come on you are friends with giant *kitten* robots and you whine about it? really???" good riddance.

I struggle with the; 'wow look how much this has changed' in a good way reinvigortating the franchise and the 'my God could you not cater for the fans a little?'.

I actually saw the old truck and instantly thought to myself that might be Ultra Magnus and they're going to keep it true to the originals so I think that turning Galvatron into a truck as well was a bit of a cop out in terms of animation. I can understand that by proxy the factory of robots storyline on Earth means that you wouldn't really have made a Cybertronian cannon BUT, at least think a little laterally and have him as a laser cutting rig or something that was at least a shadow of the original.

I will, of course, watch the new movies as well just because it's Transformers *shrugs*

I noticed through the whole franchise that Optimus Prime is really quite an angry character as well and often comes across as a bully or very bullish - I always saw him as a level headed John Wayne type character who never got angry at an individual but I just can't warm to this version.

I really like the bringing new Transformers in but they've killed so many of the original cast off that they're going to have to now. Shame they threw in the Dinobots as a casual aside without introducing any of them or giving Grimlock a line but what can you do, I'm just a fan flaming it on the internet

i was a little disappointed with them just making galvatron into a semi. maybe he'll figure out how to program his body and make himself a sweet cannon soon. anyway, hope optimus crosses paths with ultra magnus and some '86 crew in the next one. hell, i could always be wrong about the creators being the quintessons, they could go big and get unicron in this mess.

I reckon it's the Quints too - if they bring in Unicron it'd be good if they bought his brother Primus Cybertron in as well but I don't think they are going down that story arc.

Word is they off OP in TF5.....

    Then bring in Hotrod

hell yea, cybertron's not as dead as they think it is. but agreed, i don't think they actually will bring them in, and if they do they'll probably *kitten* up enormously. also i might have just bounced around in my seat a little thinking about bayverse hot rod revival, even if it means i have to relive the old childhood pain.
