Issues with grip when doing deadlifts

I have purchased a pair of lifting gloves for grip and wrist support. The gloves seem to be fine with every exercise but when I do deadlifts, particularly when I start adding weight to the 20kg bar my fingers slip so I can't do more than about 8reps, reducing to about 3 on my final set. It's really frustrating as my body is able to lift more weight and more reps but my damn fingers are stopping me!! Any tips? My gym does provide chalk but a lot of the time they have run out so that isn't really an option.

take your own chalk or liquid chalk. I'm not a firm believer in gloves your grip will improve training without them but you can also use farmers walks, dumbbell holds, plate pinches to work on grip strength. Also rep deads don't have to be touch and go, if your grip is failing leave on the floor and reset yourself and work on more reps.0

In addition to chalk, try doing loaded carries as well as holding your reps 3-5 seconds, this will help build your grip strength. When my grip starts giving out I'll also use straps but only on my heaviest set.0

Yah I don't do the gloves either...I have the callouses to prove it.
What grip are you using? mixed?
and yes chalk can help when you are slipping.0 -
I use a hook grip, where you tuck your thumb under your fingers. It takes some getting used to, but feels much more secure. On days when I do accessory stuff, I do rack pulls at a little less than my working weight, and pause at the top for several seconds.0

Thanks for your comments. Seems a general consensus that gloves are a no no. Would straps be a better option do you think? I do other lifts so need wrist support. What grip are you using? mixed?
Currently just normal palm down grip but going to try mixed.0 -
I like my gloves but don't use them for Deadlifts or Oly Lifts. Agree with others, get some liquid chalk or switch to a mixed grip on working sets.0

I agree with the others on mixed grip. I kept losing my grip once I got to 170lbs and my husband convinced me to try mixed grip. It felt awkward at first but I am now able to lift 205 without straps. Also if you do mixed grip make sure to alternate which hand is over and which hand is under for every set.0
